Lesson Plan in Science 7

Integrated in: Aral.Pan, ESP, English & Math
Date of Teaching: June 1, 2021
Time Allotment: 1 Hour

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding of the occurrence of eclipses
B. Most Essential MELC: Explain how solar and lunar eclipses occur using models (S7LT-IV-11)
Learning
Competency Objectives: at the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
(MELC) 1. Define and determine the types of eclipse;
2. Discuss what causes eclipse (solar or lunar) to happen;
3. Manipulate and demonstrate the model of the solar and lunar eclipse; and
4. Value the importance of knowing the beliefs and practices of the community in
relation to eclipse.
II- Subject Matter Eclipses (Solar and Lunar)

IV- PROCEDURE
 Prayer
 Setting of standards.
 Review:
 What was our topic last meeting?

 Motivation: “Reflect Me”

 Ask the students to close their eyes. After which, while asking them
stimulating questions, the teacher will then flash a black image on the
screen.
Priming Activity  Ask this stimulating question to the students:
Upon closing your eyes, what have you observed or noticed?
Feel? How about on this image?
What will be our topic this morning?
 Sharing of ideas together. (Answers may vary)
 Unlocking of difficulties: (Indicator 1 – English)
 Eclipse – total or partial obscuring of one celestial body by another
 Solar Eclipse – an eclipse of the sun by the moon
 Lunar Eclipse – the full moon passes partially or wholly through the umbra of
the earth’s shadow

Lesson Proper A. Activity:
“Discuss Me Now”

 Group the class into two (2). Let them choose a leader to facilitate their
respective groups.
 Each group will be given the needed materials for them carry out the activity
within three (3) minutes.
 Let them choose a representative to report and discuss their output.
 The group will be graded base on the rubric presented by the teacher.

Task: (Indicator 2)
Group 1 – Discuss the Solar Eclipse
 Read carefully the key concepts given.
 Define eclipse.
 Familiarize the solar eclipse and its types.
 Choose and paste the correct image of solar eclipse and its types and
write the definition.
 Discuss the solar eclipse and its types afterwards.

Group 2 – Discuss the Lunar Eclipse

 Read carefully the key concepts given.
 Define eclipse.
 Familiarize the lunar eclipse and its types.
 Choose and paste the correct image of lunar eclipse and its types and
write the definition.
 Discuss the lunar eclipse and its types afterwards.

B. Analysis:

 After the activity, let them discuss their outputs.

 Upon checking their outputs, a power point presentation about the topic will be done
for additional inputs. (Indicator 3 – ICT)

Key Concepts
• Eclipse – is a partial or a total blocking of light it takes place when a
celestial body is temporarily obscured by another celestial body or by its
shadow. It is the alignment of the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon altogether.
There are two types of eclipse: the solar eclipse and the lunar eclipse.
• Solar Eclipse – occurs when the moon moves between the sun and Earth
where the moon blocks the sunlight and cast a shadow on Earth. The totality
will last from seconds up to seven and half minutes, depending on where it is
observed.
• Total Solar Eclipse – happens when the sun, moon, and Earth are perfectly
aligned. This phenomenon is visible only on a narrow strip of land.
• Partial Solar Eclipse – happens when the sun, moon and Earth are not
exactly lined up and the sun appears to have a dark shadow in a small part
of its surface.
• Annular Eclipse – occurs when the moon is farthest from Earth, where it
creates a “ring of fire” around the moon.

• Lunar Eclipse- happens when Earth passes between the sun and moon.
Earth’s shadow engulfs the moon. It occurs up to five times a year and the
totality can last 100 minutes.
• Partial Lunar Eclipse - happens when a part of the moon enters Earth’s
shadow.
• Total Eclipse – Earth’s shadow engulfs the moon entirely. Some refracted
sunlight passes through the Earth’s atmosphere, which gives the moon a
reddish color
• Umbra – is the part of the shadow where all the light from the source is
blocked by the shadowing object. It is the darkest part of the shadow. The
cone shaped region of full shadow casts by Earth and the moon during an
eclipse.
• Penumbra – the region around the umbra where the shadow is only
partial, or imperfect that was cast by the Earth or Moon.
 Ask these questions for further clarification:
 What is eclipse?
 What are the types of eclipse?
 What are the causes of eclipse? Or why do eclipses happen?
 Approximately, how long will last solar eclipse? (Indicator 1 – Math)
 How many times does lunar eclipse happen or occur in a year? How long it will
last? (Indicator 1 – Math)
 How do these affect our environment or community?
 Each member of the group will answer the given questions.

C. Abstraction:

 After presenting and discussing the output of each group, the teacher together with
the students will generalize the whole points of the topic by giving additional inputs.
(video presentation) (Indicator 3 – ICT)
 Additional questions to ask:
 When was the last time we experienced solar eclipse?
 When was the last time we experienced lunar eclipse?

D. Application:

 The teacher will choose or call among of the students to manipulate and
demonstrate the model of eclipses while the other students who are sitting will be
provided also the printed materials for them to carry out the activity.

Valuing:

Ask these questions:

 Have you heard stories about eclipse? What can you share to us about this
belief?
 How do you convince your classmates that eclipse do not bring to us or to the
community bad luck? (Indicator 1 – ESP)

V – EVALUATION
 Formative Test
