Fundamentals of Instrumentation and Control
Assignment 1:
1. Explain the life cycle of an instrumentation project.

Life cycle of an instrumentation project was divided into two phases namely execution phase and
transfer phase.
For execution phase, it contains processes called detailed engineering, procurement & contracts
and construction. In detailed engineering process, the design of the project must be finalize and
most if not all of the minor bugs of the project at this point was expected to be fixed. Also at this
point there should be a concrete plan or blueprint of a project.
In procurement & contracts process, it discuss how much the project will cost, what materials are
needed, and who will be the suppliers of the materials. Also, it will discuss what is the schedule
for building the project.
In construction process, there will be movement of money from the budget on buying the
materials needed for the project. At this point the location for the project was chosen and safety
measures would be employed.
For transfer phase, it comprises manpower & training and commission & startup. In manpower
& training, there should be sufficient people who are properly trained and skilled to keep the
production of the project. The employees should undergo proper training on how to deal with the
equipment used in production of the project.
In commission & start up, the prototype of the project is expected to be finished. It will undergo
for some tests to find if there is any bugs to be fixed before it will be sold or officially used for
day to day basis. Kept data obtained from the tests should be use to upgrade and polished the
project. The data can also use for maintaining the quality of the project.

2. Explain the basic diagram of a process control

In process control, to obtain a desired output there is a system to be followed. First there must be
a required value of the process which is called set point. We will then manipulate the input, the
input influences what will be the output. It will then show the measurement through the sensors
and the measured data will send to the controller and signals the controller element to adjust the
measured data of the input until we obtain the desired output.
