1. Motivation: Show picture about the story that the learners will read and ask them about the picture.
2. Group Activity: Divide the class into groups and allow them to read the story given to their group and
answer the prepared activity.

 Narrative text – type is an account of past event that can either be real or fictional. It is a narrative essay
that tells the incidents that happened which clearly defined the setting, characters and the plot of the story.

 In summarizing stories there are elements that need to be included when you write a summary. These
elements are the title of the story, characters, setting and the plot.
 The characters are the people or animals in the story.
 Setting tells the time and place where the story happened.
 The plot is made up of the events that happened in the story. It consists of the beginning, the middle, and
the ending. The beginning gives the problem faced by the main character/s in the story while the middle
represents the actions made by the characters to solve the problem and the ending gives the solution to
the problem.
 The elements of narrative text type which are the title, characters, setting and the plot are included in
writing the summary. When you write the summary, you should refer to the main ideas of the original text,
read the 5 Wh’s and How questions in mind, your opinion is not included on the story, the summary must

7. Guided Practice: Guided reading of the story “The Lion and the Mouse”, answering of questions and
writing the summary of the story using its elements.
8. Identifying the elements of the story used in the group activity.
9. Independent Activity: Directions: Write a summary of the story “The Wind and the Sun”. Use the
elements of the story (title, characters, setting and the plot) when you write your summary.
10. Generalization: How do we write the summary of a narrative text?

Direction: Identify the title, characters, setting and the plot of the story “Malakas and Maganda”
