Aspects of Production for Visual Arts
Art Patronage
Art Patronage is the purchase or
commission of an artwork. It is
also used to describe the
financial funding given by an
individual or organization to an
artist.
PATRONS
Patrons most often come from
the upper class or wealthy
individuals or group who have
the means to buy or support an
artist in the precolonial times,
Patronage in art can be seen through the barter and trade of
decorative arts and crafts such as:

Earthenwar
e
pottery that has not
fired to the point of
been

vitrification and is thus

slightly porous and coarser
than stoneware and
porcelain.
Textile

*are arts and crafts that use

plant, animal, or synthetic
fibers to construct practical
or decorative objects.
Metalcrafts
Consists of any artwork that
is crafted from the 'ores of
the earth,' including bronze,
gold, tin, lead, silver and iron.
Jewelry
is one of the names given to jewelry created
by studio craftspeople. ... In this sense, it
forms a counterbalance to the use of
"precious materials" (such as gold, silver and
gemstones) in conventional or fine jewelry,
where the value of the object is tied to the
value of the materials from which it is made.
