Committee: Pakistan National Assembly

Agenda: Solving the Current Political Tensions in Pakistan – The Road to Elections

Personality: Pervez Khattak

Today, Pakistan is in a economic crisis which is caused by the official government of Pakistan compromising
PDM has the government in an unofficial, illegal and unevenly as it was not gone through the process of elections.
This party includes: Balochistan Awami Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, BalochistanNational Party, Pakistan
Muslim League (N), and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, National Democratic Movement Jamiat Ahle Hadith,
Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam, Jamiat Ulama-e-Pakistan, National Awami Party, National Party (Bizenjo), Qaumi Wattan
Party and Jamhoori Wattan Party. I support Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaff and also am a member of this party. There is
no political stability. In PDM there was a motion of vote of no-confidence against Imran Khan was held on 9 April
2022 where 174 members voted against him and removed him as prime minister. Consequently Shehbaz Sharif was
elected as prime minister of Pakistan. The main ingredient of any country’s default, “political instability”, is likely
to give a rough period to Pakistan’s economy. In this chaotic environment, the political parties should exhibit
moderation and take critical actions to settle this deadlock that has overcast the clouds of uneasiness and
uncertainty. The general public is more concerned about the struggling economy than their filthy plots and
campaigns to stick to power.

In 2022, the Pakistani political crises began when the opposition joined hands and submitted a no-confidence
motion against Imran Khan's government in the National Assembly, which was followed by Political crises in the
country, on national as well as provincial level. This is why there should be elections in Pakistan. Inability of
successive governments to reduce fiscal deficit significantly, unproductive use of debt and stagnant growth in real
revenues has fuelled the debt problem. Secondly, rising public debt in Pakistan is largely contributed by factors like
stagnant government revenues and high real cost of borrowing.

The one and only solution for this problem is clean and just elections. Imran Khan would give his 2 provinces
for these elections but still because the PDM has fear of not getting money and not doing corruption and breaking
Pakistan into parts. Another way is to improve exports and law and order. Pakistan needs a structured and targeted
approach. The pressure on the rupee would go away only with the FX inflow and/or freezing of outflows. In this
regard, the government needs to devise novel ways to curb the cross-border smuggling of dollars and other items.
Moreover, Pakistan needs a strong macroeconomic and financial regulatory structure to ease the economic costs of
a crisis. Information flow plays a vital role in the expansion of chaos and uncertainty in an economy. To avoid the
spread of misinformation, the government needs to conduct honest public communication through media
professionals dedicated to honest reporting about the economy.
