• Rationale

The purpose of the experiment is to demonstrate the transfer of heat energy from one object to
another. This experiment has the potential to revolutionize the way we think about heat transfer,
temperature, and energy conservation. By heating a spoon to a certain temperature and then allowing it
to cool, we can observe how heat is transferred from the spoon to the surrounding environment. This
experiment can provide valuable insights into the science of thermodynamics and the laws of energy
conservation. The experiment also highlights the importance of understanding the properties of
different materials, as they can affect the rate of heat transfer.

• Objectives
- To determine which type of spoon is the best conductor of heat.

- To evaluate the effectiveness of different materials in conducting heat.

- To gain a comprehensive understanding of temperature and heat transfer.

• Materials
Things needed in order to perform the experiment correctly:

*3 Spoons

•Wooden

•Plastic

•Metal

*1 Bowl

*Hot water

*3 small dice cut Margarine or Butter

• Procedure
1. To begin, you’re going to take a small bowl
2. Next, You’re going to place the handle of the 3 spoon (1 spoon made of wood, 1 spoon made of
metal, and the last spoon made of plastic) inside the bowl,

3. Then you’re going to take a small piece of butter and place it on the tip part of each spoon

4. Once you have completed putting butter on the spoon, you’re going to put a bead on the top of
it in each spoon as well

5. After you place it, you’re going to straighten out the spoon so it’s all laid evenly,

6. For the next step, you’re going to take some hot water and slowly pour it into the bowl.

7. Make sure that the tip of the spoon does not fall into the water once you have poured down the
hot water

8. Observe the experiment and identity which butter melt faster.

• Safety Precautions
First and foremost, it is important to ensure that all spoons used in the experiment are clean and free of
any contaminants. Furthermore, it is important to ensure that the spoons are not heated to a
temperature that is too hot to handle. Finally, it is important to ensure that all participants in the
experiment are wearing appropriate safety gear such as safety glasses and gloves. This will help to
protect them from any potential burns or other injuries that may occur during the experiment.

•Guide Questions
1. Which spoon is a good conductor of heat and which one is a poor conductor of heat?

2. What factors affect the heat conduction of spoons?

3. How does the temperature of the spoon vary over time?

• Answer Key to the Guide Question

1.The best spoon for conducting heat is a metal spoon. Metal is an excellent conductor of heat, meaning
it will transfer heat quickly and evenly. On the other hand, wooden and plastic spoons are poor
conductors of heat. This means that they take longer to heat up and do not transfer heat as evenly as
metal spoons.

2. The heat conduction of these materials is affected by several factors, such as the thickness of the
material, the thermal conductivity of the material, the temperature of the material, and the thermal
diffusivity of the material. Additionally, the type of material used in the spoon can also have an effect on
its heat conduction, as some materials are better conductors than others.

3. When it comes to wooden spoons, they tend to be the slowest to heat up and cool down. This is due
to the fact that wood is a natural insulator, meaning it takes a longer time for heat to transfer through
the material. On the other hand, plastic and metal spoons are both excellent conductors of heat. This
means that they will heat up quickly, but will also cool down just as quickly.
