In the early 1900s, William
Baird of The Riverside Inn hired Herbert Lagerblade to design
the golf course. Lagerblade was best known for holding the
patent to the steel shafted golf club. In 2021, the facility was
purchased by Darin Foltz, James Loehrke, Zack Hale and Jer-
emy Ball and renamed Riverside Golf. The new owners made
extensive restorations to the course and building. The build-
ing now houses The Turn, a casual, sports-themed pro shop,
bar and restaurant; The Rambler, a fine dining restaurant;
and The Kelly Ballroom, an exquisite special events facility
that holds up to 220 people. There is also an outdoor patio
that seats up to 150 people. Riverside Golf is only one of
four courses with a fleet of Finn Cycles. The owners describe
Riverside Golf as a complete entertainment complex, and
they have plans to continue to restore and provide wonderful
experiences for their guests, building on the 107-year history.

The Country Club of
Meadville is the only private country club in the Crawford
County area – a place where kindred spirits gather to have
fun, make friends and play golf. The club was formed as the
result of a dinner sponsored by the owners of the Sae-
gertown Inn in 1905 for about 40 local citizens to explore the
possibility of a “Country Club” with golf and polo facilities.
The club has grown and expanded over the years. The club
offers a membership that is affordable for anyone and also
offers family friendly activities throughout the year. There are
multiple areas to enjoy lunch or dinner. The club can accom-
modate various forms of special events and offers catering
for your special event with its culinary cuisine and homestyle
creations. You do not need a membership to host an event at
The Country Club.

and driving range in Venango is a
family-owned establishment with
one of the finest restaurants in the
area. Venango Valley was constructed in 1968 by Kemp and
Erath. Paul Erath was the construction supervisor for Arnold
Palmer’s Laurel Valley Golf Course in Ligonier. Venango Valley
features the original, circa 1838 Federal-style brick clubhouse
with a Colonial Williamsburg atmosphere with three small
dining rooms. There is also the new, modern, rustic causal
setting, which will seat 100. Venango Valley offers a menu
that features unique and interesting selections. The course is
known for being well maintained.

In 1965, Whispering Pines, 15630
Middle Road, was designed and built on the property of
PGA golf professional Allen “Pop” Alex. Now owned by the
Kingzett family, it features much more than a golf course. A
banquet facility will accommodate golf outings, weddings
and other events for up to 145 people. In the winter, the
course is home to AvalancheXpress; and, in the summer, a
concert series featuring 10 concerts. The concerts start on
Friday, May 27, and will be held on various Friday and Satur-
day nights throughout the summer. Whispering Pines is also
teaming up with Street Track ‘n Trail to host a motorcycle rally
and poker run.
