countries.
9. 1. The movement for voting rights for women is called as Women’s Suffrage
Movement.
2. Women’s struggle to vote got strengthened during the First World War,
when many men were away fighting.
3. Because of this, women were called upon to do the work that was earlier
considered men’s work.
4. Women began to be seen as being equally capable of making decisions.
5. American women got the right to vote in 1920 while women in UK got it
in 1928.
10. 1.In India, before independence, only a small minority was allowed to vote.
2. Gandhi Ji expressed his ideas regarding this voting system in his journal
Young India (1931) that it is discriminating to describe poor and illiterate
people of voting rights.
3. Snatching the right to vote from a person simply because he is poor or
illiterate is in no way justified.
4. A poor or illiterate is also a citizen of the country and he has every right
to enjoy all privileges existing in the country.
5. Thus, Gandhi Ji was very much fair and favoured the system that would
provide equal voting right to all.
