through, around and between buildings and other parts
of the built environment. Within buildings, circulation
spaces are spaces that are predominately used for circulation, such as
entrances, foyers and lobbies, corridors, stairs, landings and so on.
Circulation spaces may be categorised as those facilitating horizontal
circulation, such as corridors, and those facilitating vertical circulation,
such as stairs and ramps. They may also be restricted to
specific users groups, for example, in buildings used by the public there
may be public circulation spaces, and also,
restricted access private circulation spaces. They may be
closed spaces such as corridors, or open spaces such as atria and in

The profile of class room depend on the space availability, subject being taught,
the type of lesson, the resources and physical fitness required. The physical
fitness in a class room at the first or second level of education would include
beside desk and chair and following things are required :-
• Chalk board
• Pin-up board for diagram, map etc.
• Hanging rail and hooks
• Storage space for books, map, globe etc.
• Open shelving

Area requirement for students to study

o Class room :- 650 square feet .

o Activity room :- 550 square feet.

Classroom Environment
Classroom environment should contribute to child’s concept of
order and space as well as provide a rich and safe environment
where children can develop variety of skills. The early education
classroom should provide a maximum of natural lighting and few
acoustical distractions. The windows should be placed at 18” from
the floor level. The colours and textures of classroom are important
and use to differentiate quiet areas from active areas. Also the
classroom should be provided with rubber matted flooring

Minimum area required per student :- 40 square feet

The size of the classroom depend upon the number of student and
minimum area required per student, this do not include areas such
as washroom, kitchen, staff area, etc.
POSITION OF CLASS ROOM

Shading of the east and west elevation is difficult because of the low sun, and may
require some special device but north and south sides can easily protected by an
overhanging roof.

The warmer climate and the higher the humidity, the more important it is to provide
cross-ventilation or divert the wind direction by structural arrangement or some
group
of tress.
Passive cooling :- cooling mainly
maintained by the roof of the building,
the design of roof is to slope so the
radiation of sun only in roof change
according to angle.
ANTHROPROMETRY

Study of the Measurements and

Proportions of the Human body.

Human height varies greatly between

individuals and across populations for
a variety of complex biological, genetic,
and environmental factors, among
others. Due to methodological and
practical problems, its measurement is
also subject to considerable error in
statistical sampling.
ASTHETIC AND FURNITURE

• The planning and design of Childhood Facilities buildings

shall provide a family
friendly environment, support for an integrated approach
to program provisions
and a high quality facility
• A physical environment which supports integration of
health, education and care.
Activity Room in Kindergarten
The Activity Room provides a stimulating environment for children and aids
spontaneous learning. The area
is designed for students to explore learning beyond classrooms and have time to be
creative thinkers.
Creative activities help children to develop attention skills and cognitive
learning. Their imagination is in full
use and it encourages them to come up with new ideas and to think outside of the
box. Some of the activity
room in kindergarten are:-

• Art & Craft Room

The school should have a dedicated separate room for imparting training in the
field of visual Art and craft
which the kids love to visit . The art & Craft room is a place where students are
taught to give reign to their
imagination and use pencil and colours to create their own masterpieces, they also
create wonderful items
using waste material and bits of coloured paper.
• Music and Dance Room
Every kindergarten should have a well equipped music room with various instruments
and dance
room to develop the skills of students. As the core purpose of activity room in KG
section is to
engage the kids by providing then an environment that induces joy, happiness &
creativity.

• Sensory room
A sensory room is a peaceful, quiet space for your child to
develop sensory skills through a range of stimulating
objects. This controlled and safe environment gives child
to learn through their senses. Colours of sensory room are
typically pale or white, and the rooms have black-out
shades so that the visual stimulation can be completely
controlled.
First Aid in Kindergarten
• First aid is an important life skill that helps reduce fatalities and enables
the faster treatment
of injuries. It also has an important role to play in providing staff and
pupils with a sense of
purpose and achievement, giving them the skills that will potentially save
lives. IN
kindergarten small children can be anytime become the victim of serious
injuries and for
that purpose, the importance and need of a First Aid in kindergarten is very
necessary. The
presence of First Aid can minimize any serious injuries to grow further.
• What is the effect of first aid training to the kindergarten kid ?
Sometimes Children can be the only persons present in an emergency situation. They
can be an
important factor for saving lives in emergency situations. The study of the effects
of a first aid
course for 4-5-year-old kindergarten children must be given by a first aid
instructor and
kindergarten teachers. Teaching first aid also lead to more active helping
behaviour and
increased empathy in the children. Kindergarten children aged 4-5 years should be
taught the
basic and importance of fist aid.
TOILET
The Education (School Premises) Regulations 1999 and the Statutory
Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage specifies 1 toilet per
15 pupils over the age of two.
Children’s toilets and wash area should be provided with
thermostatically controlled warm water. The taps should be those
which turn themselves off after a short time.
The size of all the sanitary equipment should be that made for 3-4
years olds, not any larger.
It is important to pay attention to the rights to privacy of the child
when siting windows as well as the child’s need to feel secure.

Play space are Extremely valuable, this should
include a range of experiences, at least some of
which should be covered. approximately 9 SQ M.
can be allowed per child. Between half and two
thirds of this space should have a suitable surface
for wheelchairs, wheeled toys, tricycles and
buggies. The rest of the site should have a soft

Ideally one large sandpit is preferred to several smaller ones. Size is
dependent on the number of children using the service but a general guideline
is 15m² for 20 children, 30m² for 40 children, and 40m² for 60 children. Also it
is recommends that sandpits should allow for a minimum depth of 500mm sand.

Description Operational Parking Space
Parking Space
Parking
Nursery schools 1 space per 3 staff 1 Lay-by or turning space as
1
space per 2 staff
and Preschool 1 space per 15 children appropriate

Facilities are required for buses and cars to pick up and set down using
either
coach space, maneuvering space or a turning area, all without engaging
reverse
gear

Ideally an internal one way system should be provided with associated lay-
bye
to allow setting down and picking up of pupils by both bus and car

A minimum provision for bus spaces will be required with additional

provision
depending on the needs of the educational facility
Perpendicular

Parking configuration is the most efficient and

economical since it accommodates the most
vehicles per linear meter. Standard
dimensions for this configuration are:

Description Dimension
Parking space width 2.75 meters
Parking space length 6 meters
Driving aisle width (2-way) 7 meters
Two rows plus aisle width 19 meters
Angled - 60 Degree

This parking area configuration is ideal for a fast

turnover rate or predominantly short term use.
This is often offset by difficulties of inefficient
circulation patterns and one-way aisles. Standard
dimensions for this configuration are:

Description Dimension
Parking space width 2.75 meters
Parking space length 6 meters
Driving aisle width (1-way) 5.5 meters
Two rows plus aisle width 18.7 meters
Motor Cycle Parking
