INT. APARTMENT // BEDROOM - MORNING

sun peaks in, late morning, niharika is awake not up.

Scrolling on her phone. She comes across a few stories from
the night, skips through them. Monday blues.

she wants to pee, more like she needs to pee but refuses to
get up instead curls in her sheet but it sure doesn't help.
She's up in a hurry and pain from the bladder, leaves her
phone on the bed she grabs a cigarette from the drawer
beneath the sink.

Settled to pee, she takes her sit and lights one up.
Release.

Doorbell rings, she doesn't bother till it rings a few more

time, she pulls up her briefs and walks out. First step out
her room's door she slips over some alcohol. On her way to
the living room which is in a mess, it's visible there
happened a small gathering last night. the bell rings again.
Finally answered now.

Faraz rushes in. seen carrying some groceries for breakfast,

empties on the diner, a cigarette pack in it.

FARAZ
Sorry, I forgot the keys.

Niharika pulls out a cigarette from the pack, heads back in

her room.

CUT TO:

INT. BEDROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Faraz enters the room, we follow him. We see the other
side of the room, a canvas stand, niharika facing it, few
worked up canvases on floor leaning by the wall. A complete
white outburst except the paintings and print outs for
posters.

Faraz throws himself on the bed, his dirty feet over the
sheet. niharika disgusted by it, doesn't say much.

FARAZ
Lighter?

Niharika points out with her eye and goes back to starring
down at her painting.

Faraz now with a lit cigarette, ashes in the bin kept next
to the bed. He notices the puke.
(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 6.

FARAZ (cont'd)
Good sleep?

NIHARIKA
(annoyed)
Yeah. We need to stop calling liam
every weekend.

FARAZ
He's still in my room.

They both share a brief chuckle.

FARAZ (cont'd)
He's not that bad.

NIHARIKA
Yes Faraz... I don't want to spend my
monday like this.

Points at herself. Faraz walks over to her.

FARAZ
How else would you, niharika..

Faraz is distracted by the painting as he closes in, they

share a moment looking at it, niharika turns her view to
catch his reaction.

NIHARIKA
So?

Faraz is still caught up looking at it. A portrait of a

middle aged woman, on a winter's morning, faded light on her
face through the kitchen window while she is washing a
yellow dish. although it's halfway done it looks promising.
Faraz is impressed and appreciates it, niharika is
unsatisfied, faraz catches her look towards it, makes him
curious. he gestures her to open up about her reason.

NIHARIKA (cont'd)
I have a week to turn this in. I
can't make myself like it... I have
no other ideas to work on now.

Looks down to the finished paintings.

NIHARIKA (cont'd)
I'm too broke to get another canvas!

FARAZ
do it like an assignment, once done,
take on next.
(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 7.

NIHARIKA
That's it, that is exactly what I
don't want to.

FARAZ
Buddy, a week from now you'll be
designing posters for ad companies,
no one's gonna pay you for your art.
Get on with it and move on.

NIHARIKA
(sarcastically)
ouch, thank you.

FARAZ
I'm just saying, you got your week,
have fun with it, it sure looks good
and I'd buy it....if I had the money.

NIHARIKA
Right, I'll just appreciate it, not
look much into it. Can make it into a
sweet looking lady.....with no
expression, have no empathy for her.

She takes a cloth and rubs over the lady's face, agression
getting better of her.

FARAZ
Why.

NIHARIKA
i hate to see her smile,it looks
fake....it has become a chore. I'm
just forcing an idea at this moment.
I'm shit at this Faraz. what should I
do?

FARAZ
I know exactly what you should do.

CUT TO:

INT. FARAZ'S ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Creme curtains making the light yellow as it passes through.

lighting but lamps around. Mattress over carpet and bean
bags around. A casio with a study table.

Niharika rips a big bowl and rests her head over the comfort
of the bean bag overlooking the window, the casio comes in
her vision.
(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 8.

Faraz grabs the bong from beside her, takes a rip, he goes
for his casio, his back facing niharika, he plays a few
notes. perfect for a sesh after a hungover breakdown.

Niharika gives out an applause. he turns around, bows

FARAZ
Get out now.

She grunts.

FARAZ (cont'd)
it's 10, some of us got jobs.

NIHARIKA
Fine.

She leaves closing the door behind her. the sound of the
door, ear goes blank, legs weak for her to carry. Hard for
her to breathe, she has a moment where she forgot to. a mild
anxiety attack {REMEMBER THE ANXIETY EPISODE}

the cabinet by the bed, she removes a bottle of pills. Only
two come out, last of it. She takes it in a go and passes
out.

INT. CLASSROOM / WORKSHOP - DAY

a cramped up classroom turned into a workshop place for the

students. Mellow mood lighting with black cloth over the
window, canvas stands occupying most of the space as we see
them covered with white cloth. some unused stands by the
corner. Walls filled with work done by students.

Coming of age by JAY-Z plays by a tiny portable speaker over

a desk. Niharika on the other setting up her station,
carrying the stand that stays taller than her, laying a
mattress on the floor. she starts to mix up her paints, just
sat down with the fresh canvas overlooking her.

the door creeks. A thirty five year old man, lean his
posture, a bit of a beer belly and strong arms. a subtle
beard, looks unshaven but just suits him well with an olive
green sweatshirt. at last he carries a cup of coffee which
looks smaller than usual in his hand.
(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 9.

DAVID
I thought I heard someone.

NIHARIKA
Sorry, let me just turn it down.

DAVID
No no, it's fine. I don't mind a
little Jay-z.

NIHARIKA
You know the song?

DAVID
Hard knock life was my college last
year.

David walks to a stand, pulls out the cloth over it. Takes a
sit, there's already a somewhat done painting over it. He
continues to sip on his coffee.

DAVID (cont'd)
Did you guys have a class today?

NIHARIKA
No sir, I couldn't work at home so...

DAVID
Oh no, that is fine, I can use some
company. None of you guys show up
anyway. last week of semester and
everyone's already home. what are you
doing here?

NIHARIKA
I just came for a session. kinda
bored.

DAVID
good good. Don't you have your thesis
to do?

NIHARIKA
(awkward)
I do, I'm working on it. This is just
some practice here.

David pulls out a flask from his back pocket, tries to sneak
it from niharika but it's givn away as he pours some whiskey
in his coffee.

DAVID
Don't look at me like that. You'll
understand once you have a kid.
(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 10.

NIHARIKA
I didn't see anything.

She goes back to her canvas.

DAVID
I meant, are you going home?

NIHARIKA
What?

DAVID
What are you doing here? why aren't
you home?

NIHARIKA
ohh, nothing sir,Got to figure out a
few stuff here, maybe then.

David takes a sip of his coffee.

DAVID
(disappointingly )
Not you guys trying to figure things
out and whine about it.

NIHARIKA
Why does everyone think I'm
complaining.

DAVID
Because you are. What do you have to
figure out? get your project done,
find a job, pay your rent, ask mom
for allowance?
NIHARIKA
Yeah...?

David snaps out of his pessimist mood, he finds niharika's

gullible feeling funny.

DAVID
I'm sorry but chill out Niharika, I
know you'll get your project done,
figure out your things. it's gonna be
hard after this week, probably it
already has. But we turn out fine.

Niharika looks down to david's glass.

(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 11.

DAVID (cont'd)
Don't worry about this, it's a phase.
A bloody baby is no joke, bastard
won't stop crying or shitting!

NIHARIKA
Why have one?

David takes a long sip of hos coffee, awkward slurp for him.
niharika has already found herself in resentment.

NIHARIKA (cont'd)
I'm sorry, I shouldn't ask that.

DAVID
Well I can drink in front of you,
sure can answer that.

NIHARIKA
You don't have to, that was stupid of
me.

DAVID
I made my choice. It was either live
off as a broke artist and hope to
make a million by selling my artwork
or give the woman I love the comfort
and family to cherish. I was a
mediocre artist Niharika, earlier one
wasn't for me.

NIHARIKA
how is it then?

DAVID
Of not going with the dream? Well it
changes overtime, I was lead by love
than hopes and dreams. In your case
it's fear right now.....what do you
wanna be lead by?

NIHARIKA
Can I have a sip?

David is enjoying his student's company, he gets a laugh out

of her fear.

DAVID
Sure, I can loose my job for this but
okay.

He passes the flask, she takes a sip and sighs.

(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 12.

NIHARIKA
sir, I leave in three days, it'll be
too late to complaint now.

DAVID
Just don't take a job in marketing, a
lot of your batch mates have already
disappointed me. you guys are meant
for so much better!

David gestures her to get back to work, he puts his cup

aside and goes on to do his task. They both share an
appreciation for each other in that place.

bit, dirty style of serving the worker's beer.

FARAZ (cont'd)
Don't you have your job now?
(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 13.

Liam in his sadness nods and takes a sip of his beer.

tanashree puts her hand on his shoulder.

TANASHREE
Not for long.

She seems happy about it.

FARAZ
What do you mean?

LIAM
I gave in my notice today, I'm done

LIAM

TANASHREE
These night shifts were getting a

FARAZ
What after you end with it?

TANASHREE

Liam humbly nods.

TANASHREE (cont'd)

LIAM
Well, tanashree got me the gig, so to

He raises his mug to her.

TANASHREE
We are all making out it seems.

LIAM
(to faraz)
Yes about that, when are you leaving?

TANASHREE

Faraz is taken aback of the questions, a bit blank he goes.

To save him comes a call from the manager, he awkwardly

NIHARIKA
you never had that before.

TRUPTI
Now I do, you got a problem with
that?

NIHARIKA
What are you even gonna do over here?

TRUPTI
I'm coming for the weekend. I want to
see how you are living, make you some
food. Is that fine?

NIHARIKA
We can go out and eat, why you wanna

NIHARIKA
What are you guy saying?

They both realize she doesn't know, they hold back the
information while niharika waits for them to respond. by the

FARAZ

weak. The breathe follows the pattern of breakdown. {LIKE
THE EARLIER ATTACK}

NIHARIKA (cont'd)
I'll see you guys on the weekend.

Faraz understands the reaction, knows he can't do much here.

he sees her walk off, his head down.

FARAZ
(sighs)
This is exactly why.

Faraz gives up to the demand.

NIHARIKA (cont'd)
(under the breathe)
Leaves me alone out of nowhere,

FARAZ
I am miserable over here if you wanna
know why.

Niharika turns around furiously.

NIHARIKA
It's mumbai Faraz, everyone is
miserable here!

FARAZ
Some of us can't afford to be, now.
im twenty seven niharika, I got three
years to make something of me.
NIHARIKA
this the place for it.

FARAZ
Whatever, I am mixing drinks by the
day and sing for a handful at night,
even that isn't promised all the
time.

NIHARIKA
It takes time, you know it.

FARAZ
I can't spend anymore. I had my four
years of my bohemia. Got
responsibilities back home. It's
about time for that.
(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 19.

Niharika understands, she empathizes to his words. still

FARAZ (cont'd)
I was not made for this city. it
didn't work out for me, has it?

NIHARIKA
It doesn't matter if you have already
chosen.

FARAZ
I have, it is to be done either way.
Be broke and starve till thirty or
raise a generation to play some
beautiful notes and let them starve
with a dream.

NIHARIKA
you planning to raise a kid?

FARAZ
No, teaching some, music teacher, I
told you.

NIHARIKA
Right, remember me there.

FARAZ
Out of all the kids you are my
favorite.

NIHARIKA
That sound creepy.
(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 20.

FARAZ
Yeah I need to work on how to talk
with these cunts.

it's a wrap for them, two friends about to part ways have

coming.

Saransh takes a look around, he's tone changes, breathes a

bit heavy.

SARANSH (cont'd)
(to crowd)
Four years and eighteen people, it

He turns his head to faraz before acknowledging the crowd

again

SARANSH (cont'd)
This will be our last performance
together, this guy is gonna kill
himself soon.

Brings a laugh on faraz's face.

FARAZ
We'll see.

He puts his headphones on, hits the key, the music takes
over, crowd goes silent. Faraz head doesn't come up till the
beat hits. Saransh on the side, grooving, takes over with
the vocals. Its a sweet electronic beat with slow vocals and
hard bass. An indie electro pop.
(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 21.

The crowd is grooving, niharika shares a glance with faraz

who seems to be overjoyed with the atmosphere he has
created. His chemistry with saransh is a sweet treat on the
side.

THE DOOR CREAKS FROM THE BACK. A WOMAN ENTERS.

Niharika's attention turns there, with the music, the mood,

she was the perfect view. neck length wavy hair and the
grace in her steps, her reaction to the music, the way her
neck twitches on the tune.....NIHARIKA IS CAUGHT LACKING.

it doesn't matter the lady like the attention, they both

have a good eye contact, makes them walk closer to each
other. So they do till a point the crowd occupies space

Ananya anyway grabs a stand of her hand and starts walking

with her. Niharika chuckles and indeed likes the company.
they reach the door, opened by Saransh, he takes it from
their hands. We see faraz in a distance packing the car
trunk with other equipments.

SARANSH
Thank you.

He follows to Faraz.

Ananya pulls out a cigarette, niharika chuckles, she pulls

out a lighter for her, sparks it but it doesn't happen.
embarrassed, she just passes it. Ananya takes a laugh of it.
She lights it, caresses the lighter and keeps it in her
pocket.

ANANYA
I'm keeping this.
(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In) 22.

She puts it in her pocket. Niharika finds it a bit funny.

NIHARIKA
(chuckle)
excuse me?

ANANYA
come with me, take it back later.

NIHARIKA
Where, right now?....

Ananya walks off leaving a trail of smoke. She turns her

head back.

ANANYA
Yes.

Niharika adores the mystique in the situation.

NIHARIKA
Well okay. Give me a moment?

ANANYA
You are ruining it, but fine!

Niharika rushes to faraz, pulls him aside.

NIHARIKA
I'll see you in the morning?

FARAZ
where are you going?

Niharika gestures like she doesn't know and turns her head
towards ananya, Faraz nods takes note of that, she joins
ananya again. They rush towards a cab that just passes them.

Ananya slams the door, they sit close, faces come close but
they stop themselves as the engine starts. The cab leaves
the dust behind, they pull themselves a bit back, still
under the adrenaline Ananya puts her hand on Niharika's
thighs.

She puts out her hand, two pills(molly) on it. Indeed a face
you can trust. Niharika likes this part, she takes one. they
both go through the eagerness to kiss.
