BOM Script (Round 1: Block & Tackle)

Anna: Before we start with the first round of BOM (Battle of Minds) we would like to
congratulate all the participants for making it through the preliminary round.
Vatsal: You guys have clearly shown us that you are here to win this competition. You were
brilliant in the elimination round, and hence we have up’ed the difficultly level.
Anna: We are sure this round is going to be even more interesting and challenging for all our
participants, but before we start the first round of Battle of Minds, let us please introduce the
judges for this round.

*We introduce the judges (mostly Kalika maam and one more in house professor) *

Vatsal: Ma’am we would like you to address our participants.

Anna: With this let us start the round 1 of battle of minds which is called Block and Tackle.
Kindly pay your complete attention on the rules of this round.

Vatsal: The rules are as follows:


 This is an advanced debate exercise.
 One participant from each team shall be allowed to participate.
 The total speech time per participant will be 3 minutes and the
 Preparation time will be 1 minute.
 Here, the participant will be speaking both for & against the motion. You start off by
speaking for the motion and when the moderator says “Block” you need to speak
against the motion and when the moderator says “Tackle” you will have to return to
speaking for the motion.
 A bowl of chits will be kept from which you will be selecting the topics.
 The team presenting will be in this room and the rest of you all will be waiting in the
waiting room

Anna: Before moving forward with the round, we are happy to clarify any doubts that you
might have regarding the rules or the round. *Resolve any doubts*
Anna: Now that all the doubts are cleared, we would like to start the Block and Tackle round
by calling on the first team.
Vatsal: Team 1 (say their name) to remain in the classroom, and other teams please make
your way to the next room. One of our team member will guide you to the waiting room. We
will call you one by one for this round.
Anna: I request Team One (say their name) to stay in this room as you will be taking on this
challenge in some time.

*A topic will be selected/given to the participants and they will have 2 minute to prepare
themselves*
*Ask judges to make a note of the topic given*

Anna: So, your topic is _________________________ and you have 2 minute to prepare
yourself.

Vatsal: All the best (Participant name), you have 3 minutes to present your case, remember
to start by speaking for the motion and respond according to the judge’s call of block or
tackle. Your time starts now:

Anna: Those were some brilliant points, well done on speaking for and against the topic, we
would request you to please take your seat.

Vatsal: Well done to the first team, you can kindly make your way to the waiting room, the
results of this round will be shared after all the participants have completed the first round.

*Rince and repeat the same cycle of calling the new participant, choosing a topic for them,
giving them 1 minute prep time and commending them on their round*
