IMPORTANCE OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Physical activity is any skeletal muscle-driven movement that involves the use of energy. All
movement, whether done for recreation, transportation to go to and from locations, or as
part of a person's job, is considered physical exercise. Both vigorous and moderate physical
activity is beneficial to health. It has been demonstrated that regular exercise helps control
and prevent noncommunicable diseases like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and a number
of malignancies. Additionally, it lowers blood pressure, maintains a healthy weight, and
enhances mental clarity, well-being, and quality of life.

One of the main risk factors for noncommunicable disease mortality is physical inactivity.
Compared to those who are appropriately active, those who are insufficiently active have a
20%–30% higher risk of dying. Exercise on a regular basis can decrease the incidence of
depression, hypertension, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, various cancers
(including breast cancer and colon cancer), falls, hip or vertebral fractures, and increase
muscular and cardiorespiratory fitness. It also helps maintain healthy body weight.
Global levels of physical activity(WHO survey)
* More than a quarter of the adult population on the planet (1.4 billion individuals) do not
engage in enough physical activity to stay healthy.
* Around 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men worldwide do not engage in enough physical activity
to stay healthy.
* There has been no change in global levels of physical activity since 2001.
*Between 2001 and 2016, insufficient activity increased by 5% (from 31.6% to 36.8%) in
high-income nations.
*Levels of inactivity are twice as high in high-income countries as they are in low-income
ones.
