At the end of the lesson, the students will:
1. define compare and contrast;
2. use Venn Diagram to compare and contrast ideas;
3. use appropriate transitional words for comparing and contrasting.

Directions: Give your opinion about the two (Learners are listening and participating)
editorial cartoons on “POVERTY” by
comparing and contrasting.

Okay, how do you compare these two editorial


cartoons? And how do you contrast them?

Now, we are going to talk about what is the


difference of Compare and Contrast.

What is Compare?

- When you compare, you look at the


ways two or more things are alike.

Example

 Bicycles are like cars because they both move


on wheels.
 Cats are like dogs because they both have fur.
 CD’s are like MP3 players because they both
play music.

What is Contrast?

- When you contrast, you look at the


ways two or more things are
different.
Example

 Bicycles are different from cars because one is


powered by humans
and one is powered by gas.
 Cats are different dogs because one barks and
one meows.
 CD’s are different from MP3 players because
they play music through
different devices.

HOW TO COMPARE AND CONTRAST


PICTURES

 Give the topic or the theme of the two


illustrations
 Provide a short background of the two topics
 give a brief description of the two photos
(action, location)
 state what the pictures have in common.
 Give what in what way the pictures are
different.
 Choose which of the activities presented in the
pictures you'd prefer.
