__________ that is __________ around us.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Media is generally classified into two types, namely, print media and
electronic media based on the type of medium used for communication (Kipphan,
2001).

Print Media
Print media is the printed edition of telling the news, primarily through
newspapers and magazines. Before the invention and widespread use of printing
presses, printed materials had to be written by hand. It was a meticulous process
that made mass distribution impossible.

In order to provide information to the masses, newspapers were introduced

to carry and spread the information across. The earliest newspaper was a daily
sheet which was published in 59 BC in Rome. The earliest known printed
newspaper was in Beijing in 748 (Odorume, 2012).

Printed newspaper is usually an easy and affordable medium for getting

information.

Magazines, leaflets, newspapers, and catalogues are the age-old tools that
leave a long-lasting impression in the mind of the readers.
Newspapers are issued in a daily basis while magazines are distributed
periodically (weekly, monthly, etc.).

Electronic Media
Any media that utilizes the advantages of electronic technology is referred to
as electronic media. It includes devices that can either store or deliver information
by electronic means. Electronic media are normally linked with the use of
computers and internet. Electronic media also include radio and television.
The term 'electronic media' is often used in contrast with print media.
Electronic media is considered as more advance form of giving available
information. It has fast flowing news and information. Also, it has become so
effective in live telecast.
Television, radio and computers are examples of equipment used to received
or transmit information for broadcast.
ACTIVITIES
I. Be Organized.
Write the similarities and differences between print media and electronic

II. Media, Technology, and Me

1. Rank different types of media that you use—TV, radio, Internet, books,
newspapers, magazines, etc.—from favorite to least favorite and explain
your choices.

2. What are the specific qualities of each medium that help explain why you
like or don’t like it? (For example, a six-year-old kid might explain that “I
like fairytale books because I can carry them in my backpack, I love
princesses, and my mom read them to me at bedtime.”)
REMEMBER
 The main intent of any media is to pass information to the public. Be
it electronic or print media, the public needs to be aware of the news.

 Media is considered as the best source to be up to date with the

happenings of world.
