Media/Currency Cassette Types

All locks for the tamper-indicating

cassettes are keyed the same and
use a common key. Custom keys are
available by submitting a request for
price quotation (RPQ) through
Diebold Nixdorf product management.

Media Cassette Function Principle

The dispense cassette consists of a lid, a body, and other components required to dispense currency and
other dispensable media. The lid can be fitted with various combinations of rails, spacers, and caps that
compensate for excess space above the media. The cassettes can be configured for a specific currency
either in the factory or at the installation site.

5 | DIEBOLD NIXDORF
Media Cassette Function Principle
The media cassette does not contain any active components, like motors, sensors and electronics

The spring-loaded push plate ensures the force that pushes the media stack against the feed wheel
with a defined force

Once the media cassette is inserted, spring-loaded floor extensions push certain wheels in the picker
module against the feed wheel to ensure proper drive forces

Lower guide rails determine the correct horizontal position of the media stack inside the cassette

Upper guide rails determine the correct space above the media stack

Configuration buttons in the cassette keypad located in the back of the cassette determine the
currency and denomination

The cassette keypad can be configured to identify currency by one of the two following methods:
- Currency Code and Denomination (CC coding)
- Denomination, Height and Thickness (Legacy Coding)

Physical Configuration – Upper Guides

10 | DIEBOLD NIXDORF
Physical Configuration – Upper Guides
Let’s see the Australian Dollar as an example

Check upper rail configuration picture

for the height of denomination

Physical Configuration – Upper Guides

Select the rail(s) from

the list on the right

If no Spacer
in the config,
must use the
bottom hook!

If there’s Spacer
in the config,
you must use
the top hook!

Cassette Coding

14 | DIEBOLD NIXDORF
Cassette Coding – Currency Coding
For Currency Coding you
must insert one button in CC
and in further CC positions
as the Cassette Setup Sheet
defines for your currency.

You must also insert

button(s) into D position(s)
according to the
denomination code.

Then count all buttons

(excluding the Media Low).
The number of buttons must
be uneven (odd). To ensure
odd parity, you may need to
insert a button in the MP
position.
15 | DIEBOLD NIXDORF
Cassette Coding – Currency Coding

Insert coding buttons into the indicated positions. E.g. for 100 THB:
- Insert one button into CC position
- Insert one button into CC0 and one button into CC1 positions
- Insert one button into D1 position
- Since these add up to 4, you must insert a button into MP, to make the parity odd

16 | DIEBOLD NIXDORF
Cassette Coding – Legacy Coding
For Legacy Coding you must
remove the button from CC
position.

You must insert buttons into the

H and T positions as the
Cassette Setup Sheet defines
for your currency.

You must also insert button(s)

into D position(s) according to
the denomination code.

Then count all buttons

(excluding the Media Low). The
number of buttons must be
uneven (odd). To ensure odd
parity, you may need to insert a
button in the MP position.
17 | DIEBOLD NIXDORF
Cassette Coding – Legacy Coding

Insert coding buttons into the indicated positions. E.g. for 100 THB:
- You must NOT have a button in CC position
- Insert one button into H0 and one button into H1 positions
- Insert one button into D1 position
- Since these add up to 3, you don’t need to insert a button into MP to make the parity odd

Repair Exercise – Tensioner Replacement
Pry off the keypad cover
starting on one end and
working your way down

If cassette slips out from

the Picker Module too
easy, replace the latch
tensioner.
If keypad cover is worn,
replace that too.

Preventive Maintenance
Perform the following whenever performing a Preventive Maintenance:
Try removing the cassette without pushing the blue button. If cassette slips out, replace
the snap latch pin is feed module and the cassette keyboard cover
Remove all banknotes from the cassette and check the pushplate for smooth operation
Check the side guide rail setting if it is correct for the note width
Check the top guide configuration and rail seating if it is correct for the note height
Check the floor extension spring forces. Adjust if necessary
Check the cassette coding if it is correct for the currency and denomination
Check the cassette tambour door. If it is severely damaged, replace the cassette
Check the correct closing of the cassette lid. Replace cassette if cannot close
