CONTEXUAL RESEARCH FOR CREATIVE MEDIA PRODUCTION

Identify the contextual research you have been required to carry out for the following projects?
This might include use of images, use of typography, use of sound, existing examples of media products
and roles within the industry itself.

Horror Film Poster (if you started the course in September)


The research for the poster included finding images of the original poster,
finding a trailer for the original poster and images we could use of our own for
a version we create. We had written and researched a synopsis for the fil so
that we had an idea and vision for the film when it came to creating the
poster.

Lost Short Film


For the short film we researched shot types, use of sound, typography and
existing short films. Using a Johnny English clip, we were able to practice
editing. As well as creating sounds we were able to use sounds online from
free sounds and edited these for the film.

Blair Witch Trailer Project


For the Blair witch trailer, we were able to focus on the pre-existing trailer,
sound, role of the foley artist as well as typography for the trailer. As well as
creating sounds we were able to use sounds online from free sounds and
edited these for the film.

How did you use contextual knowledge in one of the following projects;
EG Colours, images and typography in the Horror Film Poster Project?
EG Sound, locations, shot types, props and editing techniques in the Lost Short Film Project?
EG Replicating (and updating) existing footage for the Blair Witch Trailer Project

Horror Film Poster

By doing research for the poster, I was able to make a poster for the film
including lots of dark colours. Horror posters include dark colours to suggest
the unknown danger and death mainly in the colours of black and red.

Lost Short Film –

For the lost film I was able to use the research of the foley artist to help with
sounds and shot types allowed me to work out how to film different parts. The
foley artist allowed us to have an InSite for creating sounds. We were also able
to collect sounds from free sounds

Blair Witch Trailer Project –

For the Blair witch project watching the trailer allowed us to have an idea on
how to replicate and modernise the trailer. The trailer was easy to recreate
from doing the research on it before hand. To make the process easier we also
researched sounds and where to film the project before we started.

Identify examples within your own work of where your research and application of
contextual knowledge was successful?

I think that my poster work showed allot of my research and contextual knowledge for
creating the poster. The poster was most successful as I was able to show colour skills and
my knowledge in photoshop.

What do you feel you have learned from this process that you could carry forward for
future projects?
From this project I will take on skills in colour and poster making as well as creating a
poster with a QR code on.
