While all these events happened in Ann’s life it brought her a great punch and this changed her
character greatly. The antagonist was extremely important in the development of her character,
starting to hunt for this young teenager he didn’t expect that this nice domestic girl would make a
great leap in her growth and formation of the personality, “I feel hopeful is that at last I have
decided what to do. I have made a plan: I will steal the safe-suit and leave the valley.” These words
show that she is not a child any more she is a grown-up woman who can make choices, plan her
uneasy living and abandon life she knew and understood. Other words help to understand her
motives and really feel this unprotected child and at the same time mature personality, “We will
never be able to live in the same place in peace. I have lived in constant fear of being seen and
hunted down...The valley, which has been home and shelter for my whole life, seems now to
threaten me wherever I go, whatever I do”. Using the tools and resources available to her, Ann
never fails to find a solution, and this is made even more meaningful through her maturation.

Conclusions

While reading I understood that this book brought me a great understanding how necessary to be
developed and grow as a personality. Ann Burden is a great personality with the set of great
qualities, she filled with energy, harmony, self-assurance and resourcefulness. Through this novel
one could have an opportunity to follow and observe this child with light heart becomes a mature
woman with her own way and her own world. In spite of all difficulties Ann could safe her inner
world and could protect her personality not only physically but morally. This girl is a real Zacharia
in this novel she is not the end – she is the beginning …
