Final project: Chair

Khadija Akram

Velvet upholstery fabric is durable and strong, which makes it perfect for upholstering chairs, sofas,
benches, and headboards. Velvet is currently on trend but it is also a timeless fabric that has a lux look.

Velvet today is usually made from synthetic and natural fibers, but it was initially made from silk. Pure
silk velvet is rare today, as it's extremely expensive. Most velvet that's marketed as a silk velvet
combines both silk and rayon. Synthetic velvet can be made from polyester, nylon, viscose, or rayon.

It's a common misconception that velvet is high-maintenance. In truth, the fabric isn't all that delicate
and can last for decades if properly cared for. Even in a family room that gets a lot of action, a velvet
sectional is a functional option that will hold up beautifully to years of wear.

Velvet is particularly sensitive to color fade. To avoid it, I suggest protecting your furniture by selecting a
space that isn't in direct sunlight. If that's not possible, drape a throw blanket over the sun-exposed
areas to protect it.

Velvet being a pile fabric is denser than most fabrics—meaning it has a greater capacity to retain water.
If you get wet wearing velvet, chances that it will dry off in a few hours is unlikely. It's best to stay away
from your velvet evening wear pieces for the season.
