ASTM Method D5580-95: Determination of Benzene, Toluene,

Methylbenzene, p/m-xylene, o-xylene, C9 and Heavier
Aromatics and Total Aromatics in Finished Gasoline
Method Overview: This method analyzes benzene (0.1 to 5 volume %), toluene
(1 to 15 volume %), individual C8 aromatics (0.5 to 10 volume %), total C9 and
heavier aromatics (5 to 30 volume %) and total aromatics (10 to 80 volume %) using
two different polarity columns and a switching valve. An Agilent 6890 Series gas
chromatography system, including the ChemStation and automatic liquid sampler,
was optimized to perform aromatics analysis according the ASTM Method
D5580-95. This standard method is for the analysis of benzene, toluene, ethylben
zene, p/m-xylene, o-xylene (BTEX), C9 + aromatics, and total aromatics in finished
gasolines and some gasoline-related streams.
