FAULT CODE 111

Electronic Control Module (ECM) Microprocessor


Overview

CODE REASON EFFECT

Fault Code: 111 Error internal to the ECM. Engine will not start.

Circuit Description

The ECM is a computer that is responsible for engine control, diagnostics, and user features.

Component Location

Refer to the OEM manual for the component location.

Shop Talk

This fault code can only be caused by an internal ECM problem.

CAUTION
To avoid damaging a new ECM, all other active fault codes must be
investigated prior to replacing the ECM.

Troubleshooting Steps
STEPS SPECIFICATIONS

STEP 1. Check the ECM.


STEP 1A. Check the ECM. Fault Code 111 inactive
STEP 1B. Check the inactive counts Less than three counts
of Fault Code 111.
STEP 2. Clear the fault codes.
STEP 2A. Disable the fault code. Fault code 111 inactive
STEP 2B. Clear the inactive fault All fault codes cleared
codes.

Guided Step 1 - Check the ECM.

CAUTION
To avoid damaging a new ECM, all other active fault codes must be
investigated prior to replacing the ECM.

Conditions

 Connect all of the components.


 Connect the electronic service tool.
 Run/Stop switch in the Stop position
and wait 5 seconds.
 Idle/Rated switch in the Idle position.
 Run/Stop switch in the Run position
and idle for 1 minute.
Action

 Using the electronic service tool, verify


that the Fault Code 111 is inactive.

OK NOT OK

Fault Code 111 inactive Replace the ECM


Refer to Procedure 019-031.

Go to 1B Go to 2A

the inactive counts of Fault Code 111.

OK NOT OK

Less than three counts Replace the ECM

Go to 2A Go to 2A

Guided Step 2 - Clear the fault codes.

Guided Step 2A - Disable the fault code.

Conditions

 Connect all of the components.


 Connect the electronic service tool.
 Run/Stop switch in the Run position
and run for at least 1 minute.

Action

 Using the electronic service tool, verify


that Fault Code 111 is inactive.
OK NOT OK

Fault code 111 inactive Return to the troubleshooting steps or contact


your nearest authorized repair location if all the
steps have been completed and checked
again.

Go to 2B Go to 1A

Guided Step 2B - Clear the inactive fault codes.

Conditions

 Run/Stop switch in the Stop position.


 Connect all of the components.
 Connect the electronic service tool.
Action

 Using the electronic service tool, clear


the inactive fault codes.

OK NOT OK

All fault codes cleared Troubleshoot any remaining active fault codes.
