My Career Goals

My future dream job is to become a mortician. A mortician's main duties are to embalm, dress,
and prepare the deceased for a funeral service. Some other responsibilities morticians have can
be anything from providing transportation of the deceased, providing emotional support to
family members and providing them with resources to help aid the grieving process, dealing
with legal documents, and helping the family plan services. In order to do that I need to
graduate with my associates in applied science for mortuary science, then pass the Maryland
board exam in order to get my license in Maryland. I plan on being a mortician for the rest of
my life and depending on what happens in the future, there are two things I would like to do
with my career. After being a mortician for a while I'd like to either open my own funeral home,
or I’d like to become a college professor and teach mortuary science to students. I’m not
entirely sure which I want to do more as I haven’t even started on my classes that would teach
me how to become a mortician. Many people can find this job quite macabre, but I want to
help people during their grieving process and being able to provide a proper memorial service
for the deceased loved one can play a major role in aiding that process.
