1. Attach the DCS DURASHIFT sensor into the end of the tie rod as shown. Use the universal tie
rods, M6 threaded studs and red spacer supplied to achieve the desired length of tie rod. If you
run out of enough adjustment you may have to shorten a tie rod by using the groove indicators to
assist you in locating the correct length of rod and then cutting the rod down to length, make sure
you cut the tie rod squarely or the lock nuts may come undone. Now route the sensor cable to the
Quickshifter harness and plug the corresponding sensor connectors together. REMEMBER!
Never use thread lock to secure the DCS DURASHIFT sensor into the tie rod or rod ends!

INSTALLING THE LINEAR QUICKSHIFTER SENSORS

ATTENTION! On push format linear sensor installations the interrupt only functions on upshifts
when the linear sensor is compressed. On pull version linear sensor installations the interrupt
only functions on upshifts when the sensors are in tension.

GUIDELINES FOR LINEAR SENSOR INSTALLATION USING STANDARD FITTING KIT

1. Attach the sensor to the gear lever mechanism as

shown. Ensure that the rod end is attached to the gear
lever at a point which travels through a distance of
between 7.0 - 9.0mm from rest to fully engaging 1st
gear. Ensure that 1st gear actually engages by rotating
the rear wheel when checking for total gear lever travel.
Use the accessories supplied in the fitting kit as
necessary. Now route the sensor cable to the Mounting
quickshifter harness and plug the corresponding sensor bracket
connectors together.
2. Attach the opposite end of the sensor to either the
Linear sensor
chassis or engine casing using the fitting components
supplied. The mounting bracket can be shortened or
bent to suit.
Be aware that there must be approximately 15.0mm of
shaft showing prior to fixing the body end of the sensor

FITTING THE QSX QUICKSHIFTER ECU

ATTENTION! The QSX Quickshifter ECU should be positioned so it does not exceed an
o
operating temperature of +70 C and must be installed where it is protected from excessive
vibration and harsh environmental elements. Under the riders seat or at the front of the
motorcycle forward of the head stock area or near the fairing bracket area is an ideal position.

1. Locate a suitable position for the QSX Quickshifter ECU. Do not actually fix the ECU into
position until you have installed the rest of the components and have routed the relevant cables.
Once you have completed the rest of the installation you can then secure the ECU to another
vehicle cable/harness using the supplied cable-ties. It is not essential that the ECU is firmly
secured, it can simply ‘sit/float’ in position.

CONNECTING THE QUICKSHIFTER HARNESS

ATTENTION! The QSX harnesses are designed to connect directly to the ignition coils or the
fuel injectors. Check your QSX harness connectors to see if they match the fuel injector
connectors on the engine first as they are generally easily located and seen. If the connectors do
not match the fuel injectors then you will be connecting to the ignition coils.
NOTE1: Use the information below to help you identify if the wires need to be swapped in the QSX
Quickshifter ignition coil/fuel injector connectors.
Double checking the wire connections in the ignition coil and fuel injector connectors.
The ignition coils or fuel injectors may have the positive and negative pins opposite to the
illustration shown in Diagram B. Great care should be taken when checking wire alignment
before plugging in the QSX ECU connectors. You may be required to swap the wires in the QSX
Quickshifter ignition coil/fuel injector connectors so that the QSX harness wires interrupt the +12v
supply wires in the OEM ignition coil/fuel injector connectors. See Diagram B. Failure to have
the correct wire alignment or `crossed over’ wires in the ignition coil/fuel injector connectors will
result in the vehicle/motorcycle not starting and running.
NOTE2: There will be 2 wires in each OEM ignition coil/fuel injector connector. The wire which is
the same colour in each OEM ignition coil/fuel injector connector will be the +12Volt supply wire
which is the wire that will get ‘interrupted’. In the example shown in Diagram B. the +12volt
supply wire is `black with a red stripe’ (Bk/R) although it might be a different colour with each
installation. Using a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) you can double check to see which of the wires in
the OEM ignition coil/fuel injector connectors has +12 volts on by un-pluging it from the ignition
coil/fuel injector, switch on the ignition and look for which of the wire has +12volts on.
NOTE3: If your QSX system does not feature any connectors on the end of the QSX harness
then refer to Diagram E, F & G. for further connection information on how to connect to the ignition
coil +12v supply wires and how to use the supplied crimp tool kit.
NOTE4: If your QSX system features ‘spade terminals’ then refer to Diagram H. for proper
ignition coil connection to the ignition coil +12v supply wires.
NOTE5: TLS-QSX-LSPUSH & TLS-QSX-LSPULL systems only. You may want to connect the
orange ‘brake switch lock-out wire’ to the rear brake light +12v switched wire to prevent the QSX
ECU from triggering when the bike is stationary when the brakes are applied. This can prevent
the engine from possibly stalling when selecting neutral gear. See Diagram C. & D.

Page 8
1. Route the QSX harness through the motorcycle/vehicle so the QSX connectors end up in
close proximity to the ignition coils or fuel injectors. One at a time unplug the original connector
on each ignition coil/injector and connect one male and female QSX harness connector to the
ignition coil/injector and its original connector.
2. Connect the black eyelet ring terminal wire to the negative battery terminal only. See
Diagram A. on page 2.

TUNING ADJUSTMENTS AND TUTORIAL

It may be possible to improve the `feel' of the QSX Quickshifter System from the factory
suggested settings by incrementing and decrementing each of the 3 adjusters on the back of the
QSX ECU to suit a particular rider or vehicle transmission.

ATTENTION! If you choose to adjust the factory suggested settings then road riding/testing is
essential to get the best out of this QSX Quickshifter system as a dyno can suppress the feel of
the Quickshifter .

Status LED Remove the adjuster cover

(illuminates only when 3 x Adjusters
the sensor is triggered) to access the adjusters

INTERRUPT INTERRUPT

WARNING! Never turn the adjusters beyond their range! The adjusters are small and only
require a ‘light touch’. Only use the supplied adjuster screwdriver to make adjustments.
ATTENTION! Broken adjusters will not be covered by the product warranty.

Factory settings: During the development of this product Translogic has accumulated 3 factory
suggested settings for different engine configurations. Select the FACTORY SETTING that
matches your engine configuration. See below.

Tuning adjustments tutorial

Shift force: The feel of the sensor shift force is a personal thing to the rider, we suggest you start
off with the middle shift force setting and then increase/decrease the shift force to the desired
level. Imagine that you would like to feel a little more force on the gear lever before the quickshift
happens. Let’s now increase the sensor trigger force a little. See Example 1.

Example 1. Action:
To increase the sensor shift force simply turn the SHIFT
FORCE adjuster clockwise one segment at a time until
the desired shift force is reached. If the shift force is set
too high then the gear elver will become heavy and it will
INTERRUPT become difficult to move the gear lever and excessive
force will be required to execute the gear shift.

Decreasing Interrupt duration: Use the appropriate adjusters as described in the Factory
settings section above. Imagine the interrupt duration feels too long and the bike appears to
come off power for too long as you shift gear, in this case we would decrease the interrupt
duration. Let’s go ahead and do that, decrease the interrupt duration using the appropriate
adjuster . See Example 2.

Example 2. Action:
To decrease the interrupt duration simply turn the
appropriate INTERRUPT CHANNEL adjuster anti-
clockwise one segment at a time until the desired interrupt
duration is reached. If the interrupt duration is set too short
INTERRUPT then the gear shift will become snatchy/clunky, if this is the
case then increase the interrupt duration slightly.

Increasing Interrupt duration: Use the appropriate adjusters as described in the Factory
settings section above. Imagine the interrupt duration feels too short and the bike appears to
snatch/clunk into the next gear as you shift gear, in this case we would increase the interrupt
duration. Let’s go ahead and do that, increase the interrupt duration using the appropriate
adjuster . See Example 3.

Example 3. Action:
To increase the interrupt duration simply turn the
appropriate INTERRUPT CHANNEL adjuster clockwise
one segment at a time until the desired interrupt duration
is reached. If the interrupt duration is set too long then the
INTERRUPT bike will appear to come off power for too long as you shift
gear, if this is the case then decrease the interrupt
duration slightly.

Completed adjustments: Remember to re-place the adjuster cover back onto the QSX ECU.
You can make changes at any time to this QSX ECU. If you are riding on track remember to have
your adjuster screw driver with you as you may want to reduce your interrupt durations slightly for
improved high engine RPM use, if you are road riding then a slightly slower and smoother shift
speed may be more desirable.

Page 13
ADJUSTING THE LINEAR QUICKSHIFTER SENSORS

NOTE: To adjust the linear sensor interrupt point switch on the ignition. When the shaft of the
push linear sensor enters the main sensor body the Status LED on the QSX ECU will illuminate
GREEN to Indicate the interrupt trigger point. The inverted pull linear sensor version operates in
reverse when the shaft exits the sensor.
1. With the motorcycle/vehicle standing still select 2nd gear, by hand move the gear lever
towards 3rd gear and hold the lever perfectly still when you feel the lever meet the rotating drum in
readiness for 3rd gear selection, approximately 2.0 - 3.0mm of travel, now rotate the shaft of the
linear sensor in or out of the rod end accordingly so that the Status LED illuminates GREEN at this
gear lever position. Finally tighten the rod end locknut and re-check your settings.

QUICKSHIFTER SYSTEM OPERATION

ATTENTION! To get the best results from this QSX Quickshifter system it is best to ‘short shift’
from 1st to 2nd gear (change gear as soon as possible once you have pulled away from a
standstill). Ensure that the engine is under positive accelerating load when Quickshifting as this
allows the QSX ECU to provide the best Quickshifts.
To use the QSX Quickshifter system make a full and positive gearshift with your foot/hand in an
upshift direction without using the clutch or rolling off the throttle. Be aware that the gear lever
must return fully to the rest position before the system resets itself for the next gear selection.
NOTE: Status LED will only illuminate when the sensor is in the trigger position, it does not
illuminate when the ignition is on and the unit is powered up. The QSX ECU does not draw any
current when not Quickshifting.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

1. Engine will not start - Check that the black ring terminal is located onto the battery negative
terminal only, anywhere else may cause undesired issues. Check to see if the positive +12v side
of the ignition coil/fuel injector is being interrupted. Contact your supplying dealer or Translogic
Systems Ltd for further assistance as the position of the pins/wires in the ignition coil/fuel injector
connectors of the QSX ECU harness may need to be swapped, see Diagram B. page 9.
2. No Quickshifter interrupt - Check for correct connection of the QSX Quickshifter harness
connectors to the ignition coils or injectors. Verify the Quickshifter sensor output. Check for
severed or trapped wires. Check that the Quickshifter harness connectors have not been
greased as this will cause a poor electrical connection!
3. Engine misfire - Verify the control unit mounting position and check for isolation from
vibration. Check plug and play connections and ensure the connectors are firmly connected and
that there are no trapped wires. Check the Quickshifter sensor output.
4. Engine stalls when selecting neutral - If your QSX system features the ‘orange brake switch
lock-out wire’ then ensure it is connected to the correct brake switch wire in the rear tail unit.
5. For further trouble shooting: contact your vendor/supplier or Translogic Systems Ltd.
