COURSE OBJECTIVES
This course examines key areas of financial and managerial accounting.

As an introductory course, the financial accounting module objectives focus on both the concepts and use of standards in the preparation of
the principal financial statements and the analysis of these statements.
The managerial accounting module focuses on using accounting information in order to make management decisions. This module will
primarily focus on cost behavior and cost-volume-profit analysis.
The two branches of accounting perform different roles, financial accounting focuses on the recording and reporting of the financial
performance and position of the entity for internal and external users; whereas managerial accounting uses both financial and non-financial
information to aid management to make business decisions to achieve the entities strategic goals.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
After having taken this course, participants will be able to/are expected to know or understand (knowledge-based outcomes)
LO1 Describe the nature of the principal financial statements (income statement, balance sheet and statement of cash flows)
LO2 Identify costs and their behaviour

More specifically, participants should be able to (skill- and competency-based outcomes)


LO3 Interpret and evaluate a company through financial statement analysis
LO4 Analyse, select and justify key management decisions using CVP analysis
