!! WARNING !!

Important Safety Precautions

1. Always disconnect electrical supply before placing hands in the

machine.

I. To avoid injuries:
Be sure to disconnect the electrical power before disassembling, assembling,
or when making adjustments on the machine.

II. Protection of the machine:

Make sure to turn OFF the power to the machine before plugging or unplugging
the electrical connectors, or when connecting a Meter.

2. Always connect electrical connectors firmly.

I. To avoid electrical failure:

The connectors must be connected firmly together and onto the PCBs.

II. Protection of the electrical components:

The electrical components may be damaged due to short circuits caused by
a loose connector.

General Precautions

Whenever handling PCB or any electronic device or circuit, you should take
precautions to avoid static damage. If you do not take precautions, static damage
will occur. This may mean instant failure of components or a reduction in life of
components and future problems.

- Discharge yourself to ground by touching an earthed part of the machine or

unit.
- Use a grounded wrist strap and earth this correctly.
- Keep components and PCBs in antistatic bags until ready for fitting.
- Do not hold PCBs in contact with ungrounded or non-conductive objects.

Every non-earthed or non-conductive object can carry a static charge, including

youself.
Just walking across a carpet can give you a charge of 15,000 volts or more.
You should discharge yourself to ground, but not through the components!

3. Risograph System Requirements

The SC3000 can be connected to the following Risograph models :
- All RA models (This system is not a CE-certified one.)
- All GR models
- All TR models
[ NOTE ]
If the Risograph whose resolution is 300dpi, i.e. "300x400dpi" or "300x300dpi", has the System
ROM whose video interface version is "Rev.4.xx" installed, the page data developed in the
SC3000, i.e. "400x400dpi", is automatically adjusted to 300dpi data for the Risograph by picking
off image data in a certain pattern. If its video interface version is "Rev.5.xx", however, the page
data is automaticaly developed in the 300dpi format in the SC3000.
( When connecting the Risograph whose video interface version is "Rev.5.xx", the version of the
SC3000 firmware program is required to be "1.21" or above.

INSTALLATION
1. HARDWARE INSTALLATION

- Expanding Memory Volume

4 MB DRAM is installed as standard on the Main PCB in the SC3000. This memory space is used
for developing the print data transmitted from the personal computer into page data. In standard 4
MB memory area, 1-page data of an A3-size document (2-page data with an A4-size document)
can be developed.
This memory volume can be expanded up to 20 MB by installing an optional SIMM (16 MB) on the
Main PCB in order to increase the page data volume which can be stored inside the SC3000
simultaneously.

1. Turn off the power on the SC3000 and then unplug

the power cord.
If the SC3000 is already connected to other
equipments, remove all connected cables.
2. Ground yourself and remove the Upper body cover
from the SC3000 unit by removing the upper two
screws on the rear panel and sliding the cover
backwards. Remove these two screws.
3. Install the optional SIMM (16 MB) into CN1 socket
on the Main PCB. CN1
To install a SIMM, hold it at about 60 degree angle
against its socket and press its esge connector
firmly into the slot running through the center of
the socket. Then pivot the SIMM up. You will
hear a click as the plastic tabs at each end
of the socket snap into place around the SIMM
and then the small retention pegs snap into the
holes at each end of the SIMM.

SC3000 (Version 1.0)
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
1. REQUIREMENTS AND RESTRICTIONS

1. Requirements and Restrictions

1. Common Environment - Windows 3.1 & Macintosh QuickDraw GX

(1)Minimum print margins

When the Risograph video interface specification is "Rev. 4.xx", the minimum print margins,
whose values are given in the chart below, are required by the SC3000 program.
Top Margin 5mm
Side Margin 3mm
Tail Margin 3mm

When it is "Rev. 5.xx" or over, however, the minimum print margins are defined by the
capability of Risographs.
(2)Two different ways of securing a top margin on prints
A top margin on prints is differently secured depending on Risograph models as follows;
- Adding a margin at the leading edge of feeding paper
- Neglecting the print data in the top area of the feeding paper
In the former case, the corresponding edge of the page defined in the application software is
shifted down or to the right and, consequently, the entire print area shifts downward or to the
right.
In the latter case, if the margin specified in the application software is smaller than the non-
printable area, a part of image may be clipped out on the page.
When the top margin is secured When the top margin is secured
by shifting the image down the page; by cutting the image at the top of the page;

(3) Data clearance requirement in cancelling a print job
If a print job is cancelled on the personal computer while it is sending the print data to the
SC3000, it is required to clear the print data stored in the SC3000 by turning off the power.
(4) Tagging user's maintenance requests as master-making error
If a user's maintenance request, i.e. "Replace master roll" or "Empty disposal box"
message, is raised in the Risograph, it is judged as a master-making error in the SC3000.
As a result, if youpress the START button on the front panel of the SC3000 after responding
the request, the SC3000 makes a new master for the same page again.
(5) Neglect of sorting mode setting with RC models
If any RC model is connected to the SC3000, the Sorting mode setting in the [RISO
SC3000 Setup] dialog box (or extension) is neglected even when a sorter is attached to
the RC model. In this case, the Sorting mode is required to be specified on the Risograph
beforehand.
(6) Application software's priority over SC3000 printer driver for identical print condition
When an application software can specify the same print conditions as the SC3000 printer

5-1 SC3000 (Version 1.0)

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
1. REQUIREMENTS AND RESTRICTIONS

driver, in most cases, priority is given to the application software's setting.

(7) Image shift on custom size paper in PageMaker 5.0

When "Tabloid" or a custom paper size is specified in PageMaker 5.0, image is shifted on
printed copies unless "Manual" is selected for "Tile:" in the [Paper] dialog box under the [Print]
dialog box before clicking on the [Print] button.

2. Windows 3.1 Environment

(1) Precautions on file creation

Before creating a file that is to be printed through the SC3000, set the [Default Printer] option to [RISO
SC3000 RisoRinc Driver on LPT1] in the [Printers] dialog box. Any files that are created with the default
printer which is set to another printer type may not be printed correctly even if the default printer is reset
to [RISO SC3000 RisoRinc Driver on LPT1] after they are created.
(2) Port switching interval in dual port (parallel and serial) application
When the serial port of the SC3000 is connected to the LocalTalk cable for a Macintosh personal
computer, the SC3000 checks data communication status at the serial port for 60 to 180 seconds every
time the power is switched on or every after the Macintosh personal computer sends print data to the
SC3000. In this case, the parallel port of the SC3000 is prevented from receiving print data from a
Windows personal computer during this period.
* The port switching interval is set to "60 sec." at default and can be increased up to "180 sec.".
(3) Restricted number of available custom paper sizes in PageMaker 5.0
The number of available custom paper sizes are limited to "11" in PageMaker 5.0. Besides, in US
-version printer driver, it is limited to "9" because "Tabloid" and "Postcard" have already been registered
as custom paper size there.
(4) Print condition setup in Microsoft Excel
There are the cases in which the print conditions specified in the [RISO SC3000 Setup]
dialog box (or extension) are not applied in printing documents, depending on the route up
to this dialog box in Microsoft Excel platform.

3. Macintosh QuickDraw GX Environment

(1) System requirement

"System 7.5" or a later-version Mac OS is required to be installed in a Macintosh personal computer to
install and enable "QuickDraw GX".
(2) Minimum memory requirement
The total memory volume rendered by the installed RAM and extended (virtual) memory is required to
be more than 60 MB at minimum to guarantee stable system and print performance with QuickDraw
GX.
(3) Requirement in multiple unit installation in a LocalTalk network
When multiple SC3000 units are installed in a LocalTalk network, the respective SC3000 units are
required to be named differently with the dedicated utility software, i.e. "SC3000 Namer", which is
available as spare part.
(4) Incompatibility with QuickDraw printer drivers and fax modem drivers
The QuickDraw printer drivers and fax modem drivers cannot be active on the QuickDraw GX platform.
(5) Paper size selection in feeding paper with the wide edge first
When feeding paper with the wide edge first, it is required to select the paper size tagged "** (Wide)" in
the paper size list and specify the "Landscape" icon as print orientation in an application software.

SC3000 (Version 1.0) 5-2

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
2. ERROR INDICATOR ON FRONT PANEL

(6) Print quantity specification for PDD (Portable Digital Document) files

When printing a PDD file which is created by

the "PDD Maker GX", it is required to specify "1" as number of
copies. If more than "1" is specified as print quantity, a master will
be made for each copy.

2. Error Indicator on Front

Panel
1. If an error or a user’s maintenance request
(“Replace Master Roll” or “Empty Disposal Box”
message) occurs in the Risograph, interrupting its

operation, the ERROR indicator on the front

panel is illuminated.
2. When the Risograph becomes ready for
operation, the PAGE STANDBY indicator starts
flashing, indicating the Risograph is waiting to be
restarted.
There are several ways available for restarting the
Risograph, as described below, according to the
interrupted operation status.
- When an error occurred during printing process;
• Press the START button (or the I/F key on the Risograph) to keep on printing the current
page.
• Press the STOP button to proceed to make amaster for the following page without printing
the remaining copies of the current page.
- When an error occurred during master-making process;
• Press the START button (or the I/F key on the Risograph) to remake a master for the current
page.
• Press the STOP button to proceed to make a master for the following page without printing
the current page.

Disposal Box”, was displayed on the control panel of the Risograph after master-making
process;
• Specify the number of copies required for the current page with numeric keys on the control
panel of the Risograph and press the Start key on the Risograph to keep on printing the
current page.
Press the STOP button to continue the current print job after all copies of the current page are
printed.
• Press the START button (or the I/F key on the Risograph) to remake a master for the current
page.
• Press the STOP button to proceed to make a master for the following page without printing
the current page.

4. Other Operation Troubles

1. The READY/DATA indicator doesn't flash even after the print job finishes in the application
software.
CAUSE The SC3000 cannot receive print data from a personal computer.
1) The printer cable is not securely connected between the SC3000 and the personal
computer.
2) The personal computer's system is not set up for the SC3000, e.g. the [RISO
SC3000] printer driver is not selected for the print job in question.
3) The page memory of the SC3000 is filled with the preceding print data and has no
space for the print data in question.
Wait until the print data filling the page memory is output from the SC3000 to
the Risograph.

2. The READY/DATA indicator keeps on flashing slowly without any printer’s operation even
after the print job finishes in the application software.
CAUSE The SC3000 cannot output the print data received from a personal computer to the
Risograph while the latter is ready to receive it from the former.
1) The printer cable or LocalTalk cable was removed just after a print job started in the
application software. [Printing] is displayed in the Print Manager or "Print queue"
dialog box in this case.
Connect the printer cable or LocalTalk cable and cancel the current print
job in the Print Manager or "Print queue" dialog box. Then turn off the SC3000.
2) The print job was suspended by the personal computer's system. [Pause] or [Hold] is
displayed as printer status in the Print Manager or "Print queue" dialog box.
Select the file name in question and click on the [Restart] button in the Print
Manager or the [Resume] button in the "Print queue" dialog box to resume the
suspended print job.
3) The print job may have been canceled on the way in the application software on the
personal computer.
Turn off the SC3000.
4) The printer settings (paper size, print orientation, printer driver, etc.) in the application
software don't match those in the SC3000 printer driver, i.e. the [RISO SC3000
Setup] dialog box. < only on the Windows 3.1 platform >
Change the printer settings in the application software to make them identical
with those in the printer driver or vice versa, and repeat the print job in question
from the application software.

3. A print job has been suspended and the PAGE STANDBY indicator is flashing.
CAUSE A "Pause" command was recognized in the SC3000 during the print job and the
SC3000 is requesting an instruction on what to do next.
Press one of the following buttons to resume operation according to the
suspended condition : START button (or I/F key on the Risograph), STOP
button or FUNCTION button.

SC3000 (Version 1.0) 5-6

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
4. OTHER OPERATION TROUBLES

4. Page image is not centered or is clipped at an edge.

CAUSE The print condition settings are not correct.
1) The paper size setting in the application software or the [Page Setup] dialog box is
not identical with the actual paper size on the Risograph.
2) The paper feed direction setting in the [Options] or [Page Setup] dialog box doesn't
match the actual one on the Risograph.
CAUSE The print area specified in the application software is beyond the maximum print area of
the Risograph.
Increase the border margins in the application software to contain the page
image within the printable area of the Risograph.
CAUSE There is something wrong with the Print drum in the Risograph.

5. A custom paper size registered in the [Paper Sizes Registration] or [SC3000 Paper Editor]
dialog box doesn't appear in the [Standard Paper Size] list in the [RISO SC3000 Setup]
dialog box or in the pop-up list of the [Paper Type] field in the [Page Setup] dialog box.
CAUSE The [Paper Sizes Registration] dialog
box wasn't closed by clicking on the
[OK] button, or the [SAVE] button was
not selected in the [SC3000 Paper
Editor] dialog box before
clicking on the [Exit] button.

- Operation troubles only on Windows 3.1

platform -

1. Master-making process is repeated for each

copy of the idetical page when printing a single page file.
CAUSE The [Collate Copies] check box is checked in the [Print] dialog box in the application
software.
If the [Collate Copies] check box is checked, print data is sent to the
SC3000 every time the corresponding page is printed on the Risograph, leading the
Risograph to make a master in the same times as a specified number of copies.

2. A master is made for the following page just after it is made for the current one when
printing a multi-page file.
CAUSE The [Collate Copies] check box is checked in the
[Print] dialog box in the application software.
If the [Collate Copies] check box is checked, the
following page data is not kept in the page
memory of the SC3000 until the specified number
of copies are printed for the current page but is
output to the Risograph, requesting a new master
for it, immediately after a master is made for the
current one.

3. Certain files cannot be printed or some fonts in certain files cannot be printed properly.
CAUSE The [RISO SC3000 RisoRinc] printer driver was not selected as "Default Printer" in the
application software whencreating or printing the files.
Some application softwares create files according
to the type of the printer to be used in printing

them. If a different printer driver is selected, therefore, strange printer codes are sent to the
SC3000, which prevents the files from being printed or some fonts from being downloaded to it.
CAUSE A page data of the preceding print job remains in the page memory of the SC3000
because it has been canceled before completed.
In this case, the READY/DATA indicator on the front panel is flashing slowly.
Turn off the power on the SC3000 to clear the remaining page data and then
turn it again.

4. The typefaces of some characters in a file printed through the SC3000 are not the same as
when it is printed on another brand of printer.
CAUSE The file in question is set to use printer's fonts when being printed.
