About course
The course considers to guide students through the logical processing of practical oral and
written information about translation to develop language fluency and confidence. From
applying academic concepts to analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information, students
build the critical thinking, listening, and speaking skills necessary for success.

Aims and tasks of studying the subject


Aim of studying the discipline:
- Development of translation competence in the field of literary translation in the
intercultural context generated based on theoretical and practical knowledge and skills.
-to teach learners to think critically and communicate effectively through authentic models
of effective communication;
-to build fluency in the listening and speaking skills needed to achieve academic and
personal success.
Tasks of studying the discipline:
-Visual introduction to the unit and encourage learners to think critically and share ideas
about the topic;
- to give students an idea of the features, types, stages and technology of written translation;
- to develop skills in the analysis and transcoding of the source text, editing the final text.
-to encourage students to listen for and consolidate key information, reinforcing the
language, and allowing learners to think critically about the information they hear;
-To examine and practice specific grammar points and language functions from the unit
while enabling them to sharpen their listening skills;
-To instruct students to interact appropriately in different academic situations.

Learning Outcomes:
-Apply modern theoretical concepts and provisions in the field of translation, intercultural
communication and terminology of the studied foreign language in the organization of
professional activities.

intercultural communication and terminology of the studied foreign language in the organization
of professional activities.
LO6 Apply various translation techniques (types of languages, their features and their
transmission in translation, the role of context and outside the language situation in translation,
ways to achieve the adequacy of translation, the main types of lexical and grammatical
transformations, translation of realities, technical, socio-political terms, etc. d.).
LO7 To carry out written translation: to apply in their activities the types of translation
transformations and digital platforms (rearrangement, replacement, addition, omission,
differentiation, concretization, generalization of meanings, etc.).

-Ability: Finding the solution of translation problems related to semantic, textual, stylistic
and cultural aspects of translation, translation of literary texts of different complexity and
different subjects.
-Skills: Literary texts translation skills of formation of practical skills of different stylistic
content from the source language to the target language and target language to the source
language.

2. Formats of conducting the classes:


Practical classes: practical orientation of training is achieved through solution of specific
practical situations with the use of active teaching methods, implementation of individual and
group practical tasks; analysis of practical situations (case-study).
SIW: Tasks may include: glossary design, communicative problem-solving, role-playing,
speeches and discussion of debatable questions, ERIW, control works, quizzes, tests and other
types.
3.1 Current monitoring (formative assessment) of students' progress is carried out on
each topic of the subject and includes knowledge control in classroom and extracurricular
activities: a survey and speeches at practical classes, presentation of homework, defence of
SIWT, oral and written tests and other forms.
3.2 Midterm control - colloquium, oral questioning, written works defense, tests, etc.
4. 1 Lecturer’s requirements:
4.1.1 During the semester the learnersmust independently and timely complete tasks, the list of
which is determined by the teacher, and the number of tasks -by the number of credits for the
subject.
4.1.2 The learnersmust be punctual and obliging: tardiness, absence from classes, late
submission of performed tasks, absence from the exam without a valid reason are not allowed.
4.1.3 The learners must strictly follow the rules of academic honesty: avoid plagiarism, cheating
and other forms of fraud, and follow the University Code of Ethics.
4.1.4 The learners must work off the missed classes according to the schedule approved by the
department.
4.2 Course policy and procedures:
4.2.1 ERIW assignments are issued on the 1st week of the semester.
4.2.2 Tasks may include: glossary design, communicative problem-solving, role-playing,
speeches and discussion of debatable questions, SIW, control works, quizzes, tests and other
types.
4.2.3 During the SIWT consultations are held on the most difficult issues of the academic
subject, homework, control of various assignments and other types of self-study programs.
4.2.4 Each type of assignment the teacher estimates up to 100%.
4.2.5 A learner who scores at least 25 points is allowed to take an exam.
4.2.6 Assessment of the final control during the period of summative assessment (exam) is 40%.
4.3. Providing support for people with special educational needs *
4.3.1 Individual differentiated approach to organization of the educational process:
1. Describe a picture.
2. Make up a situation using active vocabulary.
3. Ask ‘why’ questions to the text.
4.3.2 Individual differentiated approach for all types of classes:
