    The National Service Training Program (NSTP) is established through Republic Act 9163 and its revised implementing rules and regulations. The NSTP has three components that students choose from: Civil Welfare Training Service, Literacy Training Service, and Reserve Officers' Training Corps. Students are required to complete one component within one semester or academic period, which involves 54-90 hours of training over 2 semesters equivalent to 3 course units. No fees are charged except for basic tuition not exceeding 50% of the academic unit cost. Upon completion, graduates are organized into the National Service Reserve Corps or the Citizen's Armed Force depending on the component chosen.
