Safety measurements
1. Rules established in the lab regarding protection working with exposed high voltage,
horseplay, etc. applied to all individuals working in the lab.
2. Always work in well-ventilated space.
3. Always wear the proper attire while working in the lab.
4. If anything, burning, immediately disconnect the power and examine your circuit to find
the problem.
5. Do not connect power to a circuit until the circuit is finished and you have carefully
checked the connections.

Objective
To perform the no-load test on the transformer (single phase).

Equipment/Apparatus

Procedure
1. Single phase was used to conduct the measurements.
2. Set the connections according to Figure 1.
3. Set the voltage source to 220V for three phase voltage variables.
4. Selected the voltage values on the secondary sides of the transformer using bridging plugs.
5. Measured the no-load voltage on the secondary side and determined the transformation
ratio.

6. Determined the voltage on the tertiary side without changing any of the relationships on
the primary side.
7. Measured the no-load current and the active power consumed by the transformer.
8. Determined the cos on the primary side using the expression cos = P10 / U1 . I10.
9. Determined the active and reactive component of the no-load current accordingly using the
equations:
IFE = I10 . cos θ
Iu = I10 . sin θ
10. Altered the circuit as shown in Figure 2 and measured the voltage for no-load.

Discussion
Part 1:
Looking at the Table 1 results U1 appears to be higher than U2 which mean that the transformer
is a step-down transformer. While voltage at U1 remains constant throughout the experiment the
voltage at U2 decreases rapidly which increases the ratio u.
Part 2:
According to the circuit in Figure 2 we can see that it is the opposite of the circuit in Figure 1. The
differences are the power source is connected to the secondary winding of the transformer, and the
voltmeter is connected to the primary windings, which conclude the transformer as step-up
transformer. The results in Table 2 shows that the secondary voltage remain constant while the
primary voltage increases and the ratio u calculated increases same as the first part. Because of
position changes for the power source and output the results in part 2 are opposite to the results in
part 1.

Comparisons

On a transformer in order to find out equivalent circuit diagram so it's very difficult in a
transformer to get value of resistance and leakage reactant by measuring so some Test are there
which you can perform outside a transformer and then predict what would be the parameters of
transformer and those test are nothing but open circuit and short circuit test.

In an no-load test(open circuit test) well as soon as that magnetic well as soon as that magnetic
field is established by our exciting current becomes as soon as we actually connected this into a
voltage supply with secondary load only type of current that exciting current builds up our
magnetic field in the core of our transformer.

Conclusion
At the end of this lab, we learned how to determine the voltage transformation ratio of a
transformer operating at no load as well as measuring the consumed active and reactive power,
and we learned how to create the equivalent circuit quantities based on these measurements.
