HEAT TRANSFER OPERATIONS ASSIGNMENT 1

Madhumita Kumar (179101019)

Q. Calculate the heat loss from 200˚C, 5 cm diameter pipes when

covered with an insulation asbestos with K= 0.17 W/m˚C and H= 3
W/m2˚C Ambient temperature is 20˚C.

Given:

∆T= 200-20 = 180 ˚C

K= 0.17 W/m˚C
H= 3 W/m2 ˚C
Ri = 0.025m
R0 starts at 0.025 m and increases in increments of 0.005 m

We need to find Q/L:

Results:
From graph 5, we can see that as the value of R0 increases, the value
of R1 increases and R2 decreases
