Enzyme can be defined as a substance produced by a living organism which acts as a catalyst to bring

about a specific biochemical reaction. Example of specific enzymes include lipases, amylase, maltase,
trypsin, etc. The definition of a substrate is any substance that reacts to the active site of an enzyme.
A chemical bond is formed between the active site and the substrate.

In this experiment the enzyme found in the potato is called catalase, and its substrate is hydrogen
peroxide. The equation to show how hydrogen peroxide is broken down by catalase is:

2 H 2 O2 ( aq ) −−→2 H 2 O ( L ) +O2 (G)

The equation shows the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen, as catalyzed by
catalase.

From the graph plotted at the back of this book we can decipher that as temperature increases
enzyme activity started to increase as the amount of bubbles per minute. The kinetic energy
increased with the catalyse and substrate, we can see that the…..

Source of limitation: in this experiment when measuring the potato amount, the scale was not
balancing properly, there were some faulty equipment.

Source of precaution: in this experiment gloves, goggles, and were worn to prevent any damages
and harm to the body.

Conclusion:

In conclusion we can say that the investigation of the effect of temperature on rate of enzyme
activity was successfully demonstrated.
