Answer ALL questions / Show ALL working / Calculators are NOT allowed.

SECTION A

1 a) Find the missing numbers and complete the sentence for each given pattern. [6]

i) 2, 5, 8, 11, ___, ___ Rule: “Start with _______ and _________ _______ each time”
ii) 3, 9, 27, 81, ___, ___ Rule: “Start with ______ and _________ _______ each time”
iii) 27, 19, 11, 3, ___, ___ Rule: _____________________________________________

b) Find the next two numbers in the following patterns. [4]

0, 3, 8, 15, 24, 35, 48, _____, ______

2, –1, 6, –3, 10, -5, ______, ______

c) From the number plane (right) list the co-ordinates of the following points. [6]

A= B=
A
C= D=
B

d) Plot the following points on the same number plane.

i) E (2, -3)
C

ii) F (-5, -4)

2a) Rick is holding his 8th birthday party in a restaurant. The diagram shows the rectangular tables they are using for the
party. Six people can sit at one table.
When two tables are placed together end to end, a total of 10 people can be seated. [2]
Draw 3 tables together, and then four tables together in the spaces below.

1 table 2 tables together 3 tables together 4 tables together

b) Complete the table below to show how many people can be seated for up to 7 tables. [5]
The first two have been done for you.

c) Write a formula (general rule) for the number of people (P) that can be seated at n tables placed together. [2]

d) How many people can be seated when 20 tables are placed end to end? [2]

e) Rick wants to invite 34 people to his party. How many tables does he need? [3]
SECTION B

3. Rick needs to purchase some food for the party. The manager of the restaurant charges him $35 for a birthday cake,
and $6 per person for a party pack (which includes some candy, a hotdog and some hot chips).
The equation to model the cost of the food is:
c = 6n + 35
Where c is the cost in dollars and n is the number of people attending the party.

3a) Fill in the costs in this table for each of the number of people given [4]
Number of
2 4 6 8
people (n)

Cost (c)

3b) This equation to model the cost of the food can be drawn as a graph.
Plot the points from the table in 3a) on this graph. [2]

3c) If there were 12 people attended the party, what was the cost? [3]
4. The graph shows the charges for hiring a pirate costume from two party hiring companies (Fun Party and Happy
Company).

Happy Company costume hire

Fun Party costume hire

a) Explain, using the graph, which costume hire company charges more for 2 days of hire. [2]

b) Explain, using the graph, which costume hire company charges more per day. [2]

c) For how many days would a person need to hire the pirate costume so that it does not matter which company is
used. [1]
SECTION C

5) Write the equation of the line drawn on each of the grids below. [4]

a) ______________________________ b) _________________________________

6) Draw the following lines on the provided number planes below and state the gradient and y-intercept for each
equation. [8]
2
a) 𝑦 = 3 𝑥 − 1 b) 𝑦 = −2𝑥 + 4

Gradient ___________ Gradient ____________
