GAS TURBINE GENERATOR, MAINTENANCE, ELEC, 2Y

STD TEXT CODE: XXXXXX

OBJECTIVE:

Preventive Maintenance of Gas Turbine Generator.

GENERAL:

 This procedure shall be conducted under the guidance of a competent

electrical Technician / Maintenance supervisor who shall be responsible for
ensuring that the procedure is conducted correctly, safely, effectively,
and not to cause unplanned production deferment.
 Liaising with local control room operator, positively identify equipment
control supply is isolated to the panel.

TEST EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

Multimeter
Megger
Electrical tool kit

SPARE PARTS:

NA

SAFETY:

 Obtain work permit from designated authority.

 Ensure circuit is dead and static energy to be discharged.
 Issue electrical isolation certificate to designated authority.
 Use Personal Protection Equipment.
 Control room must be informed that work is being carried out on Gas turbine
Generator.
 Ensure adherence to proper PPE (helmet, ear plug/earmuff, gloves, goggles,
dust mask, high visibility clothing and safety footwear as applicable) and
confirm that the PPE satisfies the basic safety requirement.
 Ensure adherence to all Safety precautions and procedures.
 Conduct toolbox meeting before executing the job. Toolbox meeting should
explain the job step and risk involved in executing the job

BEFORE TEST:

Brief the operator the scope of work and assist him to engage safety
measures i.e. PTW, process reading interruption, vigilance and manning
requirement, risk, and its mitigation. Mutually agree with the operator
that safety measures are in place. Obtain operators signature on the PTW
(Permit to Work).
PROCEDURE:

GAS TURBINE GENERATOR:

GENERATOR COOLING SYSTEM

 Inspect all ventilator ducts, passages, cooler, ensure inlet/outlet are

unobstructed.
 Check the tubes are free of duct and fans rotate freely, clean with dry
compressed air.
 Clean the Generator cooling air filter.
 Clean air inlet filter and air inlet meshes of the ducts, check for
corrosion/damage.
 Check the Winding resistance and Insulation resistance Cooling fan (CAC)
motors.

GENERATOR

 Clean the Generator externally.

 Measure and record DC winding resistance value of main generator with”
Ductor”.
 Measure and record the IR value of the Generator winding with Megger
(Disconnect the Main and Neutral cable from Generator terminals).
 Measure and record the IR value of the Generator Main and Neutral cable with
Megger, discharge the cables by disconnecting Surge arrestors.
 Inspect the Generator Main/Neutral box, clean the terminal bushings and
support insulators for crack.
 Check the gasket for any damage and apply sealing compound for Main terminal
box.
 Check the integrity of cable glands and shrouds,
 Clean the Generator CT/PT and inspect for any damages or cracking.
 Check the integrity of primary/secondary terminations of CT/PT.
 Check the termination connection tightness.
 Check the winding physical condition through inspection window (No
contamination of oil & dust).
 Check the healthiness of Space Heater.
 Check all auxiliary motors, Emergency oil pump, Auxiliary lube oil pump and
All cooling fan motors

GENERATOR ROTOR & EXCITER

 Check the Bearing Lube oil for any contamination, discoloration, and sludge
formation.
 Measure and record Winding resistance and Insulation resistance of Generator
Rotor winding (after shorting the Diodes).
 Inspect and clean Rotating Diodes with soft cloth and check for any signs of
overheating.
 Test all Rotating Diodes with Multimeter and replace if defective.
 Inspect Exciter, PMG winding and the Rectifier hub, clean if required.
 Check gasket and apply sealant compound to the Exciter and PMG terminal box.
 Check the termination, IR for Anti-condensation heater of Generator and
Exciter winding.
 Check the termination of all Junction boxes and apply grease.
 Check the integrity of all power and control cable glands/shrouds.
 Ensure Earthing of all terminal boxes and cable glands.

CONTROL PANELS (AVR/GCP/CSP-Panels)

 Clean the interior with vacuum cleaner.

 Check and clean the ventilation grills of the panel.
 Check the integrity of the control panel cooling fan.
 Check for any overheated cables, damaged insulation and for loose
terminations.
 Check the connection tightness of panel selector switches and Pushbuttons and
inspect for any abnormality.
 Check all the contactor, control relays, timers, for any overheating and
connection tightness.
 Check all panel indicating meters for zero error and any damages.
 Check the healthiness of panel indication lamps.
 Check the integrity of all control cable glands and shrouds.
 Check the panel door gaskets for any damage and locking mechanism.
 Check the integrity of control panel earthing.

NEUTRAL EARTHING RESISTOR

 Check the integrity by operating the isolating switch.

 Check the fixed and moving contacts of switch for any signs of wear, pitting
or erosion.
 Check the integrity of motor operating mechanism and lubricate as necessary,
check the auxiliary/changeover switch mechanism for integrity/security.
 Check the control terminal connection tightness and inspect for any damage in
terminal blocks.
 Clean and check CT’s for any damage, crack or any traces of tracking.
 Check the CT power and control terminal tightness.
 Check the integrity of cable gland termination and shroud.
 Check the integrity if Earthing.

DE-ISOLATION:
 Confirm electrical isolation has been removed.

CLOSE-OUT:

 Return and Close the work permit.

 Record details of all observations & actual jobs carried out including
spares used.
 Collect all leftover items ensuring good housekeeping practices. Make
necessary arrangements to dispose of used items according to the
environmental protection regulation.
 Any abnormalities, report for corrective actions.
 Enter observations / history into SAP for performance analysis through line
supervisor. This will be useful for future reference.

 Close the work order.
