PRE-HISTORIC ERA
 Painting was found inside the caves which
may have been their way of communication
 Archeologist bring importance to art during
this era for they depict how people live back
in the days
 Themes/subjects usually about animals who
were usually correct in proportions
 Figures composed of animals, humans and
abstracts

PAINTINGS FROM ANCIENT EGYPT


 Purpose of Egyptian paintings is to make the
deceased afterlife place pleasant.
 Themes include journey to the underworld
introducing the deceased to the gods of the
underworld by their protective deities.
 Highly stylized, symbolic and showed profile view
of an animal or person
 Main color used are red, black, blue, gold and
green – derived from mineral pigments

MOSAIC
 Art process where an image is created using
an assemblage of small pieces of colored
glass, stones or other materials

 BYZANTINE PAINTING
 The lively style of paintings which had been invented in
Greece and Rome lived on in Byzantium but this time for
Christian subjects.

vital for the welfare of their soul and encouraging the
faithful that they were on the correct path to salvation
