Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2
virus. The arrival of COVID-19 has created unprecedented challenges for the world. In
Indonesia, the coronavirus has infected more than a million people since the first confirmed
cases in March 2020 and tens of thousands have died. Coronavirus curbs on the economy and
society continue to have a shocking impact on human development. After years of progress,
poverty is rising again. One in ten people in Indonesia today are living below the national
poverty line. Child poverty may increase significantly.
Due to existing Corona virus at present many companies located in Indonesia cease their
operation activities so that many workers lost their work. One of the examples in Jakarta Covid-
19 pandemic has caused some workers underwent employment termination (PHK). It is reported
there are more than 11,000 companies encounter problems so that ten thousand workers were
inactive asked to stay at home without pay, even there are more than 16,000 workers their
employment were   terminated (PHK). This also causes unemployment in Indonesia to increase,
in heavy scenario the government considered economic growth was at the level of 2.3% with
potential figure of around 2.9 million people. While in very heavy scenario, national economic
growth will be minus with potential figure of unemployment to reach more than 5 million
people.
The pandemic is also negatively affecting global economic growth, slowing down
business activities, reducing production, and increasing unemployment and income uncertainty.
As the virus continues to spread, restrictions on mobility are curtailing economic activities,
which has created an economic shock that is prompting a global recession. Less investment, job
losses, and disrupted national and global trade and supply chains have caused many governments
to take necessary actions and to collaborate to enable a robust global recovery. Global
coordination and cooperation are required to mitigate the spread of the pandemic and its impact
on economic and social stability. At the same time, clear and accurate information is needed to
maintain public social stability; hoaxes and disinformation can cause public panic and disrupt the
process of recovery.
All countries dealing with the pandemic have been refocusing their government funds
and programs to tackle COVID-19. We are all hoping that a global economic recovery will start
in the third quarter of 2020. The COVID-19 outbreak caused a decline in financial markets in
January 2020, but that decline didn’t last long and losses were quickly compensated. January’s
and February’s decline was generally in Asian markets, especially in China. In China despite the
strict measures taken in to account, it was impossible to prevent the spread of virus to other
countries, so the global stock markets collapsed. The declines in the stock markets were further
increased when the WHO announced COVID-19 as a global pandemic on March 11, 2020.
The impact of COVID-19 is of great concern to the people of Indonesia. Besides a big
impact on public health, this Covid-19 case also has a big impact on community economy. From
the description above, the conclusion concludes that Covid-19 has an impact on the economy in
Indonesia, including: (1) the difficulty of finding work; (2) a lot Employees who are already
working must be left home without being paid up to a certain limit not yet known; (3) The
incidence of crime in several areas; (4) Countries experiencing very big loss.
