CREATING CONNECTIONS

The case for distance learning

One of the greatest challenges fac.ng educators who live in remote rural

district is the ability to provide students with low-cost high quality

educational services. In additional, there are large numbers of adult

learners who suffer from lack of resources, unable to afford the high

cost of hiring instructors for the subjects that are necessary for them to

achieve their full potential. Such persons are increasingly creating

connections through distance learning.

DEFINITION

Distance learning may be defined simply as learning that takes place

between students and teachers who are separated by time an space.

Thus, students and teachers make use of audio, video and computer

technologies.

AVANTAGES

Students and adult learners do not have to be face to face with a

lecturer; distance learning encourages student to be creative, to

participate actively in their own learning, and to prepare for the kind of

world that they will enter as adults.

CHALLENGES

Distance Learning requires a great deal of maturity, discipline and

perseverance on the part of the student.
