Verbele care se termina in -ee adauga -ing:

Verbele care se termina in -ie schimba grupul -ie in – y si adauga – ing:

Verbele care se termina in o vocala si o consoana (cu exceptia w, x, si y):

Cele care sunt monosilabice dubleaza consoana si adauga – ing:
jog – jogging; sit – sitting; run – running; stop - stopping
Cele care sunt bisilabice
- Se adauga – ing fara nici o modificare daca prima silaba este accentuata:
answer – answering; offer – offering; listen – listening; visit – visiting
- Se dubleaza consoana inainte de – ing daca a doua silaba este accentuata:
admit – admitting; prefer – preferring; begin – beginning

- Actiuni care au loc in momentul vorbirii: The baby is sleeping at the moment.
- Situatii temporare: Ann is working in London this weekend.
- Situatii schimbatoare: The wind is getting stronger si stronger.
- Actiuni repetate cu always, constantly, continually, etc., care sunt :eranjate pentru vorbitor:
He is always asking interesting questions. (Here “always” means “constantly”)
- Aranjamente pentru viitor/Planuri peersonale de viitor: I'm seeing Ann tonight.
