8. From your readings in No. 7, how did you apply the learnings or insights
gained in your project?
The learning or insights I gained from my readings, are very important
because I learned that you should know how to combine the herbal plants and
vegetables plant and more if you combined it to fruits. I learn also on how to
cooperate with others and cooperation is the tool to a successful outcome of a
project

Propagation

Here`s a beginner guide to plant propagation

Propagation is not always successful on the first few tries, but we

encourage you start somewhere because it’s rewarding when it works!
You. Got. This.
Propagation for many plants is best done in potting soil, but some plants
can be propagated in water. This is because they have evolved in an
environment that allows it. Most Aroid plants can be propagated in
water, including pothos plants, philodendrons, monsteras, and ZZ plants.
These plants originate from an ancestor that lived in swamps, so being
able to adapt to flooding conditions and still being able to grow was key
to survival. As a result, the descendants of that ancestor have the ability
to grow in water, too. However, they are still land plants and will do best
if planted in soil over the long term. Follow our easy steps below and
you’ll be putting the ‘pro’ in propagation in no time.

SEEDS
Growing vegetables from seed is fun, and it’s a great way to save tons of
money on gardening! There’s nothing like being able to walk out into
your backyard and harvest fresh vegetables to feed your family! But
starting vegetable seeds can be intimidating and overwhelming for
beginners, and there are many things to think about.
SPORES
Spores are the reproductive structures ferns and mosses. To produce new
plants, sow these dust like “seeds” on a sterile medium and cover them
to maintain humidity and prevent contamination. Clear plastics shoe
boxes or cups are ideal containers for propagation. You can collect
spores from your own ferns or buy them form specialty catalogs. You
can now whenever they are available. The new plants will be ready for
the garden after period of months or years.
DIVISION
Division is an easy way to produce more plants with almost 100 percent
success. This method involves digging up an established plant and
separating it into several pieces. Division is used for bulbs and mat-,
clump-, or crown- forming plants, including ferns, bamboos, bugleweed,
daylilies, and hostas. Single- stemmed plants like trees cannot be
divided.
All you`ll need for division is a tool to dig up the plant, and your hands
or a sharp implement to separate the pieces. You can divide most plants
in either spring or fall. Division produces full-sized plants that can be
placed directly in the garden.

CUTTINGS

A cutting is a small piece removed from a plant which with proper

treatment can be induced to form roots and then grow into a specimen
identical to the parent plant.
Not all plants will grow from cuttings so perhaps use a gardening guide
book or website to check which plants will work.
Choosing a reasonable new growth from the plant, take a pair of pruners
and cut at a 30 degree angle to leave a point. How much you have to but
will again be dictated by the plant. You then need to strip the lower half
of the cutting of leaves and any flower buds as these will take up energy
the plant needs to grow roots. If you can cut just under a leaf axil as
roots grow around and under these areas.
Although not always essential, many people treat cuttings with a rooting
hormone to help stimulate growth. All you do is dip the cut end into
water and then into the rooting hormone powder (liquid rooting solution
is available) making sure you don’t use too much.
Once all this is done you need to choose a rooting medium (compost).
Again, different plants work better in different mediums.
You can use sand, soil or even water. If using water make it a dilute
fertilizer mixture and keep out of direct sunlight. One great advantage of
water being your rooting medium as that you can see what is going on
and do not have to guess if the roots have developed.
If using sand or soil, use a pencil to create evenly spaced holes for your
cuttings and make sure soil is moist and well prepared.
You now need to keep your cutting moist but not too wet so try a spray
bottle. Covering the cutting over loosely with a plastic bag can help
retain moisture.
Once you begin to think you may have roots give the cutting a GENTLE
tug. If you feel resistance it means roots have begun to grow. All you
need to do now is carefully transport the cutting to where you want it to
grow and plant it.

LAYERING
The Royal Horticultural Society says layering is one of the simplest
methods of plant propagation as layered shoots are encouraged to form
roots while still attached to the parent plant₁.
Layering consists of bending a low branch or shoots to soil
level, wounding it and then covering with soil. All wounding
means is making a slanting cut that goes half way through the
stem. You should then dig a small trench to place the stem in.
Place it in the hole and peg it down into the soil with a forked twig
or bent wire. After covering it over with potting compost push a
cane into the ground near the free end of the stem. Bend the
stem upwards and tie it to the cane. Then water the layered area
and keep moist. Now just wait for your cutting to grow
GRAFTING
Grafting is the process of splicing a piece of one plant onto another.
Better Homes and Gardens describe it as the mad-scientist way of
propagating your plants₂.
There are too many different grafting methods to get into here but they
include approach, bark, cleft and bridge grafting.
The part you want to graft is known as the scion and the plant you want
to graft to as the rootstock.
Although all methods differ the basic premise is to cut your desired
scion, make a wound in the rootstock where you want it to grow and
secure the scion in place using grafting tape to let the two fuse together.
Remember this is just a general guide and the method to use will be
dictated by the type of plant so always do your research before you
begin. There are loads of great books and websites out there to help you
make the right choice.

BUDDING
Budding is a particular type of grafting. In this method, you use only a
single bud from the desired plant. Budding is commonly used to
propagate fruit trees as well ornamentals, such as hybrid tea roses. For
the home gardener, the advantages of building are similar to those of
grafting. In some cases, budding is more successful than grafting
because it is easier to get close contact between the bud and the root
stock. Budding also allows you to propagate more plants if you have a
limited amount of section material.

For this techniques, you`ll need a sharp knife and some string or tape to
secure the bud to the stem. As with grafting, compatible root stock
plants are necessary. Budding is the best done in late summer or early
fall. Buds inserted at this time will produce new growth the following
spring.
LEARNING AND APPLICATION
I learned that propagating plants you only use little time and efforts to
fill your garden with different plants and it are more cheaper to do than
buying at the market. And by doing this, you must know the different
ways to propagaten them in order them to live.

IMPORTANCE OF HERBAL MEDICINE

As our lifestyle is getting new techno- savvy, we are moving away from nature.
While we cannot escape from nature because we are part of the nature. What
nature has stored in for us we have not yet fully explored. This fact can be
disturbing point with humans. Certain European and oriental countries have been
exploring the use of herbs and has been in practice since the centuries. Great work
has been done which eluded the common man`s reach and knowledge. with life on
tech- route for every individual in the 21st Century human sufferings are
coming out with different names. The basic herbs have the answer, the
overall key is no side effects and effective remedies. The remedies are in
sync with nature which is the biggest plus point where no other medicine
can claim these facts. The golden fact is use of herbal treatment is
independent of any age groups.

IMPORTANCE OF MEDICINAL PLANTS

What are medicinal plants good for?
Are plants really so important to man?
Plants are extremely useful for us. On the hand, they provide us with Oxygen we
need by means of photosynthesis necessary for us to breathe. But furthermore they
contribute with nutrients through food, wood for fire, chemicals for industries, etc.
The use of plants as food has been the main aims from the beginnings of the
humanity, looking for differences among those species that were eatable from the
ones that were not. In search, Man has experimented with plant in his own body
and seen how what he though was a food was in fact in deadly poison.
Throughout history, civilization have moved around the plants, living beings who
have influenced a lot in humanity. The conversations of the seeds in cooked muds
jars allowed to get free harvesting wild plants and invention of agriculture with the
consequence progressive disappearance of nomadic cultures.
The search for new species led to discovery of the American continent and the
appearance of colonialism (see more reasons why in general are also important.)
Medicinal plants have been important to mankind.
Also, the search of medicinal plants, narcotic species or plants with aphrodisiac
properties has guided human beings to look for the plants in the most recondite
places.
In order to obtain a cure for any illness, to experience new sensation/s or just
because of simple curiosity, these type of plants have been very as necessary as
appealing to us, since ancient times.
Are medicinal plants stills useful in recent days?
The importance of medicinal plants becomes more patent at the present time in
developing countries. In Pakistan it is estimatedthat 80% of its population depend
on plants to cure themselves, a 40% in China. In technologically advanced
countries as the United States, it is estimated 60% of the population use medicinal
plants habitually to fight certain ailments. In Japan there is more demand medicinal
plants than of “official” medicines.
Modern medicines, trough clinical test, has been able to validate those plants that
tradition has used with the method of test and error. Many turned out to have been
worth; others demonstrated to innocuous; others, potentially dangerous.
Biochemical tests have been the ones that determined the main components of the
medicinal plants- the active principles.

What are the main virtues or medicinal plants?

The capacity of modern chemical industry to produce those principles without the
aid the plants doesn’t deny the importance that these have and will still have In the
future. Among the main agreements in defends of the medicinal plants we have to
mention the following:
 A future medicine bank discover there are approximately half a million
plants with flowers, most of which have not been investigated and which
principles could a decisive in the treatment of present of future diseases.
 Synergic medicine: It has been verified that in many cases the application of
an isolated component has not had the wished effect, because it does not
have the same curative power that it has when it is taken all together will the
rest of components, or because it has turned out to be toxic.

The components of the plants have a synergetic effect, that is to say they all
interact simultaneously, so their uses can complement or others or neutralize
their possible negative effects. It have been verified how lycopene, a
flavonoid present in tomatoes has a great capacity to prevent or delay the
advance of the cancer. Studies with mice have demonstrated the ingestions
of human dust reduces the levels of cancer in greater proportion than the
administration of pure lycopene.

 Support of officials medicines. The treatment of very complex disease can

require in some cases the support of the medicinal plants or derivative that
they provide. The importance of taxol, an obtained derivative of the yew of
the pacifie (taxus brevifolia) in the treatment of the cancer especially
concerning breast cancer, has been approved by the same American F.D.
 Preventive medicine: Finally, we don`t have to forget the prevent character
that the plants are better than the chemical remedies that are applied
essentially when the disease has already appeared.

It has verified that natural food ingestion can prevent many pathologies, it
has been admitted that eating vegetables with antioxidant properties,
especially those that belong to Brassicaceae group, like cabbages, radishes,
etc. or certain liliceae, as garlic or onion has the capacity to resist the
appearance of ceetain degenerative diseases like cancer or other diseases of
the circulatory system.

LEARNING AND APPLICATION

I learned that until now many people are still using herbal plants even though
there`s technology that make the commercial medicines. Using herbal plants is
more cheaper, reliable effective and of course there`s no side effects.
THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD HEALTH
Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social- being, and not merely
the absence of disease or infirmity. –World Health Organization

Many people do not realize the importance of good health, and even if they do,
they may still disregard it. Whether we work at home or in an office, we need good
health in order to perform our duties well. When people talk about health, they
usually refer to condition of the body. However, health does not merely mean
being free from physical pain or the symptoms of diseases. The mind is of crucial
consideration in the overall assessment of well-being.

The necessity of good health is not limited to a particular religion, caste, creed or
gender. Most diseases have their origin in mind, or the manomaya kosha. A person
can be said to be healthy when his or her body is healthy when his or her body is
healthy and the mind is clear and calm. While many people may not have material
problems, they may be unhappy or agitated at the psychological level. They may
suffer from insomnia due to stress, or feel depressed, irritable and aimless. All
these are the result of an unbalanced mind.

Unfortunately, most of out attempts to become happy relate only to the body. We
strive for materialistic ends, such as lucrative income, status, a big house an
expensive car, jewelry and so on, because we believe these things will make us
happy. Seldom do we give attention to our mind and soul, which the time and
resources we spend in trying to fulfill our physical needs and desire, we are still un
able to achieve lasting peace and happiness through satisfaction of bodily needs.
This is because we have not learned how to listen to our mind and soul.

A human being is a composite unit of five sheaths. The ancients Ayurveda health
system propounded this truth more than five- thousand years ago when it
emphasized the importance of a balanced life, talking into consideration not only
the body, but also the mind and the soul. Indeed, the wisdom of Ayurveda is
profound and enduring, as it heals the body, mind and soul. It gives knowledge of
die, hygiene attitudes and lifestyles and induce total health.

Everything we eat does one of two things: it either nourishes us or poison us.
Food that has been over- processed and contains preservatives acts like show
poison.
The entire modern food handling process, where emphasis is on long shelf life, is
turning our food into poisons. In order to keep the body healthy, it is fundamental
to follow a wholesome
Diet, consisting of fresh vegetable proteins in the form of lentils, beans, mlik
products, dried fruits and like. Besides healthy food, we also need sufficient sleep,
fresh air, and proper physical exercise, such as yogasanas or other sports.
WAYS TO STAY HEALTHY
Many people think that being healthy is a difficult task that involves lots of dieting
and time at the gym, but that's not actually true! By making some simple tweaks to
your routine and setting small goals for yourself, you can be on the path toward
living a healthier, happier life. Start a daily habit of making healthier choices when
it comes to eating, relaxing, being active, and sleeping. Soon, you'll start to see
your healthy life taking shape!
1.
Drink more water. Adults should drink 2–3 liters (0.53–0.79 US gal) (or roughly
eight 8 oz glasses) of water per day, while children should drink 1–2 liters (0.26–
0.53 US gal) (or roughly five 8 oz glasses). That is in addition to other drinks like
tea or coffee. Water keeps bodies at the correct temperature and removes toxins.
 Water also clears your skin, helps your kidneys, helps to control your
appetite, and keeps you energized.[1]
 It also keeps you from drinking unhealthy beverages like soda and juice,
which are high in calories. The body barely registers the intake of these
unhealthy drinks and yet you still feel thirsty hundreds of calories later.
 Drinking hot water (aka tea) can help stimulate your digestive system. Hot
water also helps your body naturally detoxify itself. Make sure the water is
comfortably hot and won't burn you.
Tip: If you dislike the taste of water, splash some lemon, lime, or 100% juice into
your water. You can also choose to replace water with sparkling water mixed with
juice in order to trick your brain into thinking that it's soda.
2.

Eat breakfast. A light, healthy breakfast is sufficient enough to reap the benefits
of eating early. If it's comprised of lean protein and whole grains, then it will keep
you from gorging at lunch. Research shows that breakfast-skippers actually
eat more! So, to curb your appetite, don't skip the first meal of the day.

 Instead of two chocolate doughnuts and a coffee that's more cream than
anything else, opt for eggs, fruit, and for a beverage like skimmed milk,
fresh orange juice, or tea. The healthier and filling your breakfast is, the
more energized you'll feel throughout the day.[2]

Eat well throughout the day. If half of your plate is vegetables and fruit, you're
on the right track.[3] Add in lean protein, low-fat dairy, and whole grains. Once a
steady eating pattern has been established, your body will feel more comfortable.
There may be a period of time when your body is wondering where the sugary
foods went, but once you're over the hump, you'll feel better than ever.

 Remember that not all fats are bad for you. Good fats can be found in fish
like salmon and tuna, avocados, nuts, and olive oil. These are essential to a
well-balanced diet.
 Make an effort to eat regularly timed meals throughout your day. However,
avoid grazing all day.
3.

Eat at the right times. A good time for a healthy, easy-to-digest evening meal is
between 17:00 and 20:00 (5:00 pm and 8:00 pm); it's best to avoid late night
snacks because they fill you with unnecessary calories and can disrupt your sleep.
If you do need that midnight snack, stick to unsalted nuts, seeds, fruits, and
veggies.

 Try not to eat 3 to 4 hours before you go to bed if you find that eating at
night is causing you trouble sleeping.
 Snacking isn't bad for you if you do it right. In fact, eating "constantly" can
keep you from feeling deprived and going for that third piece of cheesecake
when the cart rolls around. Just make sure it's all in moderation.[4]
4.

Consider going meatless at least a few days a week. Being vegetarian is a good

way to reduce your calorie intake and get loads of vitamins and minerals. It can
also improve your cardiovascular health. If you don't want to go fully vegetarian,
you can improve your health by eating less meat. Choose a few days a week to go
vegetarian, and switch out red meat for chicken, turkey, and fish.

 When you eat a vegetarian diet, base your meals around non-starchy
vegetables rather than grains like pasta or rice. When you do eat grains,
choose whole grains. Eat protein at every meal, such as eggs, low-fat dairy,
beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, tofu, or other meat replacements.
 For example, you might eat scrambled egg whites with tomatoes and
spinach in a whole grain tortilla for breakfast, black bean soup with a small
side salad for lunch, Greek yogurt for a snack, and vegetable lasagna for
dinner.
 A high-fiber diet is easily had without meat. Fiber has been shown to lower
your cholesterol, control your blood-sugar levels, improve your bowel
health, and make you less likely to overeat. The recommended fiber intake
is 30g a day for men and 21g for women; after the age of 50, this jumps up
to 38g for men and 25g for women. Some good sources of fiber include
fruits and vegetables (with the skin), whole grains, and legumes.[5]
5.

6
Limit simple sugars in your diet. While carbohydrates are an important part of
your diet, simple sugar can be harmful to your health. It provides a quick energy
spike that then bottoms out, causing you to feel hungry faster. Simple sugars,
except for fruit, are also high calorie and lacking in nutrients. It's best to avoid
sweets and added sugar, but you can include them in moderation.[6]

 Fruits are technically simple sugars but can still be a healthy part of your
diet. They're full of vitamins and nutrients. Whenever possible, eat your
fruits with the skin.
6.

Read food labels to make the healthiest choices. Processed foods get a bad rap,
and often for good reason. However, you've got to choose your battles. That frozen
bag of broccoli isn't nearly as bad as that boxed mac and cheese. In short, avoid
processed foods when you can — but if you can't, read the labels and watch for
added bad stuff: salt, sugar, and fat.

 Food that stays on the shelves often has added sodium, words that end in -
ose, and trans and saturated fats in the ingredient list. If you see these on the
label (especially if they're in high amounts), avoid them. You can find a
healthier alternative elsewhere. It's not worth it.
 Just because it says it has no trans fat doesn't actually mean it has no trans
fat. Negligible amounts can be legally ignored — so if you see
hydrogenated vegetable oil on the list, you've found one of the masked
culprits.
7.

8
Talk to your doctor about incorporating supplements in your
diet. Supplements can make sure you get all of the vitamins and nutrients you
need. Take your supplements with a meal to help them absorb better. You might
choose to take a multivitamin every day, or you can supplement particular nutrients
that may be low for you, such as calcium, vitamin D, or vitamin B12.[7]

 Don't start taking any supplements without first talking to your doctor,
especially if you're taking medications.
 Keep in mind that taking supplements is not a replacement for a healthy
diet.
8.

Use intermittent fasting to control calories and boost endurance. Intermittent

fasting means going without food for 12-16 hours at a time. You may do this every
day or on certain days of the week. This can help you burn your fat as a source of
energy and improve your energy endurance. It may also help you manage your
calorie intake.

 For example, you may eat breakfast at 6:00 a.m. and then not eat again until
dinner at 6:30 p.m.
 As another option, you might eat normally on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday,
and Saturday but restrict on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
 This diet is not right for everyone, especially people who have diabetes or
hypoglycemia. Talk to your doctor before starting any new diet plans
Having a Healthy Exercise Plan
1.

1
Get in shape. In addition to helping you lose weight and gain confidence,
exercising has a host of other benefits for your body and mind. Having good
cardiovascular health has been linked to a decreased risk of Alzheimer's, just to
name one. So hit the pool for a swim, the pavement for a walk or jog, or the park
for a hike as often as you can.

 Exercising boosts your immune system too; even a change as minor as

walking briskly for 20-30 minutes a day, five days a week can improve
your immune system by increasing both your antibody and T-killer cell
response.[8]
 Exercising is also one of the absolute best ways to sleep better at night[9]—
which can help you lose weight by keeping you from overeating. Read How
to Get Fit for more details.
2.

Maintain a healthy weight. Our physical frames vary in size and weight. An

individual with a large frame can carry a little more weight while a person with a
light frame will be able to carry less.

 Being underweight isn't a good thing either! Do not use any form of crash
diets. There is no magic bullet for weight loss—and even if there were,
starving your body of vital nutrients wouldn't be it. A slow change in your
eating habits is much safer and the long-term benefits for your physical
health are greater.
 If you don't want to go on a diet, read How to Lose Weight Just by
Exercising. Just remember that only serious athletes are able to burn off
enough calories to be able to enjoy massive indulgences—and even so, they
tend not to because it's hard on the body. Even if you do consume more
calories than are recommended for you, be sure that they are nutritious;
your heart, brain, muscles, bones, organs, and blood can't run forever on
empty calories.
3

Cross train. Just because you can run 5 miles (8.0 km) without stopping doesn't
mean you're healthy—same goes for lifting weights the size of a small car. If you
only do one activity, you're only using one set of muscles.[10] You'll be shocked
when you go swimming or do core workouts that you can't keep up!

 What's the answer? Cross training. Not only does doing several different
activities work all your muscles (which can help prevent injury), it also
keeps you from getting bored. That's the ultimate exercise killer! So include
aerobic and strength training workouts to your routine. Your muscles will
be glad you did.
3.

Exercise wisely. It should go without saying that there are bad ways to work out.
Every time you get moving you put yourself at risk for injury, so make sure you're
doing it right!

 First things first, stay hydrated. You should always be sipping water during
your workouts. Getting dehydrated can lead to dizziness or headaches
during your sweat session (or lack thereof).[11]
 Take breaks! It isn't being lazy, it's being healthy. You can't go-go-go
forever. After 30 minutes or so of exercise, grab your water bottle and
lighten up. Your body needs a second to catch up. You'll be able to go
further in the long run.
4.

5
Take advantage of opportunities to be active. Being physically active isn't about
pounding the pavement or joining a gym—it's a lifestyle that can be had
24/7. [12] If you can add extra 10 steps to your day here and there, they add up.

 Don't have any ideas? Park a bit farther away from work, the mall entrance,
or the grocery store. Ride a bike to work or school. Take the stairs. Walk
the dog every day. Take lunch to the park. Bike to work or the local coffee
shop. Little opportunities are everywhere.
Being Emotionally Healthy
1.

Think positively. It's amazing how much power our minds have over everything in
our lives. A simple positive twist on a situation can turn an obstacle into an
opportunity. Not only will you have more gusto for life, your immune system can
fight off colds and heart disease better![13] Harvard wouldn't lie.

 To start this difficult step, focus on gratitude. When you start thinking
about the bad thing swirling around you, stop. Cut it out. Think of two
things you're grateful for. Eventually, your mind will notice the pattern and
stop the negativity before you have to consciously do it.
2.

Be satisfied. This doesn't mean "be content with your life" (well, it does, but give
it a sec)—it sort of means "satisfy yourself". If you're on a diet, allow yourself a
(small) bit of what you're craving. If watching the Golden Girls for three hours on
a Friday night sounds like heaven, do it. Whatever the small things are that make
you happy, do them.
 Your happiness is invaluable, but so is your health. If you're not healthy,
you're not fully happy. It's when we've got our mind and body in top shape
that we can attack everything else. If work, family, friends, a relationship,
and money are wearing you down, making a small choice like opting for
that whole wheat bagel instead of a hot pocket can build the foundation for
a long-term difference in your health. Then, when the going gets tough,
you'll be ready to take on your challenges with a healthy body, mind, and
conscience.[14]
3.

Think small. When we concentrate on unattainable goals, we get daunted,

frustrated, and lazy. After all, why try to achieve something that will never
happen? A healthy mindset has to be in the here and now. It should have concern
for the future, sure, but it shouldn't be preoccupied with what hasn't happened yet
or won't.

 Being emotionally healthy (and happy) is easier to attain when you focus
on the steps of your journey as opposed to the destination. If you want to
make it on Broadway, focus on getting your next audition. Then focus on
becoming equity, then focus on moving, etc. Now will always come before
the future—focus on them in order!
4.

Manage stress. This one is huge. When stress takes over our lives, everything else
falls apart. Our homes get cluttered, our minds get cluttered, and our relationships
get strained. Take yourself aside for five minutes and think about your stress levels
—how are you managing it? What could you do to be more calm and relaxed?
 A very healthy way of managing stress is doing yoga. If that doesn't sound
appealing, how about meditating? No? Then simply make sure to take ten
minutes out of your day to just power down. Sit with yourself and just
breathe. Make a point to get centered every day.
 When you feel stressed, do breathing exercises or breathe deeply to calm
yourself and relax your body.[15]
5.

Choose your friends wisely. We all know those people that seem to drain us, but
yet we're friends with them anyway because they have a nice TV or because, well,
we get bored. Unfortunately, for our emotional health, they've got to go. They do
us no good and we know it — we just ignore it to maintain consistency and avoid
awkward situations. Do your mental health a favor and tear off that band-aid. In
the long-run, you'll be happier.

 Not sure how to recognize a toxic friend? How to end a toxic friendship?
We've got you covered.
 Spending time with your friends can improve your life. Be social as often
as possible with the people who enrich your life.
6.

Be productive. One of the best feelings to easily come by is that feeling of "I got
so much done today!" For that moment, you feel virtually unstoppable. Your mom
saying "If you put your mind to it, you can do it" is no longer a lie! Now imagine
riding that high constantly.
 Start by creating a to-do list. A calendar or planner is a good idea, too. And
remember: think small. Attack a few small things to get you going. You'll
get on a roll before you even realize it.
 Incorporate learning into your day so that you're always learning something
new. This will help prevent cognitive decline.
7.

Take a break. This is similar to the "Be Satisfied" step; you need to do what's
right for you sometimes, regardless of what the world seems to be demanding.
Without feeling guilty, take that proverbial Kit Kat Bar. Spend a night in. Take a
morning off. You'll be twice as energized when you get back to it.

 This goes for exercise too. If you do the same thing over and over, your
muscles get used to it, you get bored, and you end up plateauing. So instead
of pounding the pavement on Wednesday, go hit the pool. You're not being
lazy—you're being logical.
8

Find emotional balance. Even if you master every other aspect of health, it won't
feel complete if you're suffering from inner turmoil. Everyone needs a pick-me-up
sometimes, and there are many small things that you can do to feel better about
yourself. If the problem extends deeper, you may need to learn to cope with
emotional pain or even depression.

 Once you have worked on yourself, you should work on your approach to
interpersonal relationships. Learn how to recognize a manipulative or
controlling relationship and, if necessary, deal with emotional abuse so that
you can have a healthy relationship.
8.

9
Include the arts in your life, such as music, theater, and visual arts. Art can
improve your enjoyment of life and your health. Listening to or playing music,
dancing, participating in theater, and making your own art can improve both your
physical and mental health. Express yourself creatively and enjoy the creative
expressions of others.[16]

 Start a creative hobby or take a class.

 Enjoy the arts with friends.
9.

10

Travel as much as you can. Traveling can improve your physical and mental
health, as well. It allows you to grow creatively, relax, and experience new things.
Traveling keeps you active and lowers your risk of depression.[17]

Traveling is often difficult if you're living on a budget. If this is the case for
you, try going on a day trip or a short road trip.
Part4
Having a Healthy Routine
1.

Create a daily routine. A routine can help you stick to your eating, exercising,
and stress reduction goals. It also ensures you have time to do the things you want
to do, such as hanging out with friends or engaging in a hobby. Create a routine
that works for you!

 It's okay to have a different routine on certain days if that's what you need
to do for your life.
 Try out different routines until you find one that works for you.
2.
2

Stop engaging in risky behavior. Taking unnecessary risks is hard on the body

and mind. It can also have devastating long-term consequences. Serious or
established patterns of risk-taking can also be indicative of deeper psychological
problems, in which case you should talk to a healthcare professional who
specializes in a relevant field. Start by setting your sights on one or more of the
following achievements:

 Have Safer Sex

 Stop Binge Drinking
 Quit Drinking without Alcoholics Anonymous
 Quit Smoking
 Beat Drug Addiction
 Things like wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle and wearing your
seatbelt when in your car.
 These things are easy to do. While they are definitely daunting,
they're doable. Often if one of these is accomplished, other things
seem much easier and will fall into place.
 If you already don't engage in risky behavior, congratulations!
3.

Exercise several times a week. We've stressed the "get fit" part already, but now
we want to make it a little less ignorable. Your daily/weekly routine needs to

include exercise. It will increase your metabolic rate, control your weight, and
you'll feel fresh the whole week. Triple win!
 Here's something concrete for you: aim for 150 minutes of aerobic activity
every week (or 75 minutes of vigorous activity) and strength training twice
a week.[18] Even mowing the lawn counts!
4.

Get a good night's rest. When you sleep, your body produces cells that fight
infection, inflammation, and stress—which means that getting too little sleep or
poor-quality sleep not only makes you more prone to getting sick, but also
increases the time you need to recover from illness. When you sleep well, you
can wake up ready to go and be more active all day. Sleeping properly is very
important for your health! [19]

 On top of that, a study conducted by The American Journal of Clinical

Nutrition demonstrated that men who slept for 4 hours consumed 500 more
calories than they did after sleeping for 8 hours.[20] If you're looking for an
easy diet, here it is!
 Read How to Sleep Better for tips.
5.

Learn how to cook. Cooking your own meals is a wonderful experience as you

can try out different recipes while saving money at the same time. What's more,
you get to control every little thing that goes into your body. That's really the only
way to turn your diet around!

 When you cook, avoid using fatty oils and extra add-ons. Stick to olive oil
instead of vegetable oil, butter, or margarine and keep the extra salt and
cheese to a minimum. If it doesn't taste good without it, try cooking it
differently!
6.
6

Maintain your personal hygiene. Wash your hands often, especially after visiting
the bathroom at home or using the restrooms in a public place. Germs can spread
like wildfire and bring us down in the blink of an eye. And as if it wasn't already
clear, taking a shower is a good idea too.

 When it comes to your mouth, floss and brush your teeth and tongue after
eating; food particles are often the cause of bad breath and gum disease.
Visit your dentist regularly for cleanings and to catch any problems before
they become serious.
7.

Bolster your immune system. Maintaining healthy habits and a high level of

energy is difficult for anyone who constantly battles fatigue, colds, infections, or
any other effects of a weakened immune system. Read How to Develop a Strong
Immune System for more information.

 If you can help it, try to get all your necessary vitamins and minerals from
your diet. If you can't naturally, supplements should only be used as a
secondary measure.[21] And of course, talk to your doctor before you
undergo any significant changes.

Producing Organic Fertilizer

5. From the reading in no. 7, how did you apply the learning or
insights gained in your project.

LEARNING AND APPLICATIONS

1. Importance of Sunlight to plants

Plants play a very important role in the food chain. Plant is

one of the source through which the living organisms like
human and animals feed. Sunlight is required by the stomata
in the plants to prepare their food. Sunlight along the
chlorophyll, water and carbon dioxide are required by the
plants to prepare food which is stored in the form of starch in
them! So sunlight plays an important role in the survival of
life on Earth.

2. Importance of water to plants

Water is essential to plant life. To survive, plants need water,

as well as nutrients, which
are absorbed by the roots from the soil. Plants are 90% water. Water is
transported throughout the plant almost continuously to keep its vital
processes working.
3. Benefits of Using Organic Fertilizers

Organic Fertilizers provide nutrients necessary for plant growth,

with the benefit of
Being slower-acting and gender than chemical fertilizers. Organic
fertilizers are not in a form that is immediately absorbed by plants, but
rather must be first broken down by soil bacteria and fungi into forms
that can absorb. Unlike chemical fertilizers, organic fertilizers are not
easily washed away in a heavy rainstorm or irrigation session, and that
the plants get the benefit of the nutrients for growth more evenly over a
longer period of time rather than all at once.

Organic fertilizers help improves soil structure and nutrient

content overtime. While chemical fertilizers simply add water-
soluble chemicals which are either absorbed by the plant roots or
leach away, potentially polluting water resources, organic
fertilizers add organic matter that helps the soil to retain moisture
and nutrients. Sandy soils in particular can benefit from the
addition of organic fertilizers, or from the use of organic matter
like well-rotted compost and manure used as a soil fertility additive
or mulch. These latter organic matter fertilizers have the added
advantage of often being free from livestock farms, poultry farms
or wood processing facilities which compost their discarded
bedding and wood chips.

Aside from the articles and theories that I have read for the
implementation of my project, I also researched on values
integration, which I tried to internalize not only on the said project
but also throughout my life.

A. Loyalty
I learned that being loyal to my friends helped me a lot in realizing
my project because they are always there whenever I need them
towards the implementation of my project.

B. Human Relation

I helped me become friendly and improved my relationship with

other people. I learned to listen, to understand and to solve
conflicts.

C. Self-esteem

I learned to apply the motto “I can do it”, that confidence of one`s

self carry out the trials of life.

D. Friendly

I learned to be friendly to all the people that I met when my project

is on-going and I realized that is very important in dealing with
other people.

E. Solidarity

I noted that working in my project requires the collaborative effort

of my work group. I cannot do anything if I am alone, so it is
necessary that a group must be solid.

F. Understanding

Individual differences should be considered so that there will be a

harmonious relationship in a group and this value remained in my
heart so that I can have partners towards the realization of my
project.

1.1 Narrative Report of Accomplishment

The Chief Girl Scout Scheme Award is very impressive one yet
I know that it is very challenging and hard to achieve. I know that I
cannot do it by myself so I have to consult many people first before I
decided to be one of the candidates.
Tita Elsie evaluated my records and she told me that im
qualified to the said endeavor, I consulted my parents and luckily
they gave me the positive response.
Tita Elsie and I together with my parents conferred with the
Punong barangay and we requested to have a survey of existing
problems. We found out that some problems are concerning health
poverty.
After the survey, my Troop leader, my parents and I had a
conference again to come up with a decision on how to address the
problems and we decided to Put up a herbary.
My troop leader coordinated with the barangay council and
requested further for to present our plan during their session. The
barangay Council gave us the Opportunity to discuss our proposed
project and fortunately it was accepted and approved with their
assurance that they will support the said project and they even
identified a site which is a property of the barangay.
Since everything was coordinated, I attended the orientation of
the Chief Girl Scout Medal Scheme candidates to have a clear
direction of putting up my project. Our Council Executive Mrs.
Zenita F. Mosico made an ocular inspection and approved the
proposed site of my project.
The Planting Activity was headed by my troop leader, my
parents and friends of my family and other Girl Scouts Member.
In conclusion, Behind the successful realization of my project is
an inspiration from God, endless support from my parents and my
troop leader, unconditional love and care of the Volunteer workers.

WORKSHEET 1:

PROBLEM/COMMUNITY/ANALYSIS

Description of the problem or Health service is one of the three identified problems in our
opportunity you have identified. community and with this, I choose to initiate a project that
lies under the area of HEALTH (herbal garden). Others don`t
mind whatever they felt due to the high cost of medicines.
Though they wanted to try use herbal plants, another reason
why I really take on this project.

Reason for chosing this as a priority- After my conclusion with the community members, I`ve seen
what are the benefits and who will be and known how our community is in awful need of service
the benefit? with regards to health. Moreover we lack of herbal garden
here in our barangay. So, I take this priority and started to
initiate and pursue the project. The benefits are; they will
save lot of money in buying commercial medicine. Another
is that they have to use them. And also the people who are
lack of money will not be worried anymore rather in
choosing to those expensive medicines they can just use
herbal plants.

Who will be affected if the project does The people of our community obviously most especially the
not proceed and how? needy people in our place because it`s a fact that they are the
beneficiaries of this project I`ve initiated. And if it will not
go on, they will still become ignorant about the positive
benefits of the herbal plants and disease will continue to
spread.

What is your outline proposal? First, I discussed it with my parents about my plans. Second,
I consulted the head or leaders of our barangay and asked for
their approval. Third, we cleaned the area of my project.
Fourth, we`ve collected and propagated the needed herbal
plants. Fifth, we maintained the herbal Garden.
