    Work can be positive or negative depending on whether it speeds an object up or slows it down. Only the component of force parallel to an object's displacement contributes to the work done on that object. Pushing a box parallel to the floor means all efforts contribute to work, but pushing at an angle means only the horizontal component counts as work while the vertical does not.

    arms parallel to the floor all of your efforts contribute to the work done on the box. But if you Are
    pushing a downward angle only the x component contributes to work while the y component does not.
    The sign on work is very important because it tells us if the speed of an object will increase or decrease
    and has a result on applying to work.
