Procedure

I. Warming up
1) Look at the pictures. What will we talk about today? (Professions, work)/ What are your
associations with the word “Work”?

2) Today we will focus more on professions, so look at the pictures and match them to the
professions. Is the meaning of all the words familiar to you? Would you like to have one
of these professions in future? Why or why not?

II. Do a test and check what profession may suit you. Comment on the result
III. Word formation
1) Whenever we talk about professions, we need to know how to form these words.
All the nouns denoting professions, are formed with a help of different suffixes.
Look at the picture below and identify these suffixes:

2) Let’s work with a handout (copy 1). Add the necessary suffixes.

Do ex.3-4 p.46 in your textbooks (Oxford Exam Trainer B1)
V. Discussion: unusual jobs
Have a look at the list of unusual jobs. Would you like to try any of them? Why? Why not?

-your ideas

Turn to your partner and discuss. Do you have similar ideas? What profession would you
choose for a living? Why?

Do ex.8-10 p. 47. Interview you parents to find out why they’ve chosen the profession they
have.
