Fixed Plant Maintenance

Line of Progression
Last updated: 2/17/2023

Overview
This document outlines the process and requirements used to develop skills and knowledge for
promotion from Maintenance Helper (OM03 / TM03) through Certified Diagnostic Mechanic (OM07 /
TM07). The minimum requirements / expectations contained herein outline the knowledge and
experience an employee must possess and demonstrate to be competent and eligible for promotion.

Purpose
The purpose of this OM / TM structure is to ensure Maintenance employees are knowledgeable in
multiple operational areas of the business, which in turn will help the company operate more efficiently
and effectively. The development of employees will provide increased career opportunities for them while
addressing business needs such as having a strong employee bench when changes such as promotions,
transfers, etc., occur.

Process
Employees will take the written Flex Knowledge Assessment when entering the Maintenance Department
if they have not taken it through an apprentice program.

The Fixed Plant Maintenance Knowledge Assessment will assist the Supervisor, Sr. Supervisor or
Maintenance Superintendent in determining the competency of the employee in each area. The Training
Department will provide a breakdown of the scores in each competency area of the assessment. The
employee will have the opportunity to schedule technical training classes for the competency areas of the
test that they need improvement.

If the Supervisor does not believe that the individual has the required skills, then a bi-annual evaluation,
with an action plan and timeline will be completed using the Performance Matters Evaluation Form. This
will be reviewed and approved by the Sr. Supervisor and Human Resources Department. After approvals, a
conversation will take place wherein the employee, the action plan and the timeline will be discussed. It is
the Supervisor’s responsibility to provide hands-on training opportunities to support the development of
our employees. When the employee has successfully completed the defined action plan, their supervisor
will provide the Maintenance Superintendent or Sr. Supervisor the name of the person to be scheduled
for testing.

IMPORTANT: The employee will be responsible for driving the process. The Sr. Supervisor and Supervisor
are responsible for ensuring the training and field competency time is available to the employee.
