Some Helpful Tips

 Crochet the doll with tight stitches.

 Rounds are worked with continuous rounds technique. Do not join rounds with slip stitch or turn unless it
is stated otherwise. Use a stitch marker or a piece of yarn to mark the ending of the round. It’s highly
recommended you to read through the pattern completely before beginning to crochet.

 When working in rows, work through the entire stitch, not back loop or front loop only unless
specified otherwise.

 After a chain, always start working into the second loop from hook if it is not indicated otherwise. X
shape and V shape single crochet stitch: You might notice that my single crochet stitches are slightly different
from yours. I used yarn under single crochet (X-shaped single crochet) stitch technique

 I used yarn under single crochet (X-shaped stitch) for the body, arms, legs, head, and when crochet in spiral
rounds. I used yarn over single crochet (V-shaped stitch) when working in rows, and hair strands.

 Hair strands: all my doll’s hair strands are made from a foundation chain. When you look from the front you
will see each chain has a V shape with a left loop and a right loop, look behind, you will see a back ridge.
Working in the back ridge gives a neater finish to projects. If I want the hair strands straighter, I will crochet
into the back ridge only. In usual, all hair strands of my dolls are crocheted into the left loops.

CROCHET TERMINOLOGY
Chain Stitch
The chain stitch is the foundation of most crochet projects. The foundation chain is a series of chain stitches in which you work
the first row of stitches.
To make a chain stitch, you start with a slip knot (or loop) on the hook. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the loop on your hook
(first chain stitch made).
Don’t pull the stitches too tight, otherwise they will be difficult to work in.
When counting chain stitches, do not count slip knot, nor the loop on your hook. Only count the number of ‘v’s

Back Ridge of Foundation Chain

The back ridge ( also called back bumps or back bars) is found on wrong side of the foundation chain. It consists of single loops
behind the ‘v-loops’. To work in the back ridge, one inserts the hook from front to back through the back ridge loop to pull up the
yarn. Working in the Back Ridge gives a neater finish to projects.

Crocheting Around a Foundation Chain

When you want to start an oval piece rather than a round piece, I use this a lot for making feet and bags.
Start with indicated amount of stitches in a chain. Single crochet into the second chain from the hook ( if making an oval this will
usually also be an increase stitch) and in each chain along. The last chain is where you need to put your increases ( this will be
indicated on the pattern) as you make the increases you will naturally turn to work up the other side of the foundation chain ( this
will be the other loop of the foundation chain).

Front and Back Loops

Every stitch what looks like ‘v’s on the top. There are two loops that make up the ‘v’. The front loop is the closest to you and back
loop is the loop furhest from you. Generally, we work in both loops- under both the front and back loops. Working in either the
front or back loops only, creates a decorative ridge.
Work all stitches under both loops unless otherwise instructed.

Increase

Inc: work 2 single crochet stitches in the same stitch indicated.

inc3: work 3 single crochet stitches in same stitch indicated.
inc4: work 4 single crochet stitches in same stitch indicated.
dc- inc: work 2 double crochet stitch in the same stitch indicated.
dc-inc3: work 3 double crochet stitch in the same stitch indicated.

Half-Double Crochet (hdc)

Starting with a loop on your hook, yarn over hook before inserting hook in stitch and draw up a loop ( three loops on hook). Yarn
over and pull yarn through two loops (two loops remains on hook). Yarn over and pull yarn through all three loops (first hdc made)

Double crochet (dc)

Starting with a loop on your hook, yarn over hook before inserting hook in stitch and draw up a loop (three loops on hook). Yarn
over and pull yarn through two loops ( two loops remains on hook). Yarn over and pull yarn through remaining two loops on hook.
(first dc made).

Treble (or triple) crochet (tr)

Starting with a loop on your hook, yarn over hook twice before inserting hook in stitch and draw up a loop (four loops on hook).
Yarn over and pull yarn through two loops (three loops remain on hook). Again, make a yarn over and pull yarn through two loops
(two loops remain on hook). Once more, yarn over and pull through remaining two loops (first tr made).

Back-Post single crochet ( BP-sc)
Step 1: Insert hook from the wrong side into the gap to the hook-side of the next stitch to be worked.
Step 2: Insert hook from front to back around the post into the far-side gap.
Step 3: Yarn over and draw loop through both gaps.
Step 4: Yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook.

Invisible single crochet decrease (inv- dec)

Insert the hook into the front loops of the next two stitches (three loops on hook). Yarn over and draw through first two loops on
hook (two loops remain on hook) . Yarn over and draw through both loops on hook (dec made).
Use the invisible decrease when working in the continuous spiral rounds. When you see ‘dec’ in the pattern work invisible
decrease.

Single crochet 3 together ( sc3tog )

Insert the hook under the front loop only of the next three stitches. This gives you four loops on the hook. Wrap the yarn over the
hook and draw it through the first three loops on your hook. Wrap the yarn over the hook again and pull through the remaining
two loops on the hook. You have now completed one sc3tog.
Indeed that means ‘ triple invisible decrease’

Changing colors/ Attaching new yarn

With the current color, work the last stitch before the color change up to the last step of the stitch. Using the new color, yarn over
hook, pull new color through remaining loops on hook.

Close the opening

Working in the stitches of the last round, insert the yarn needle from back to front through the front loop of each stitch around.
Gently pull the yarn to tighten the hole. Once the opening is closed, secure the yarn. Insert the needle back through the center of
the ring and taking care, bring it out at an inconspicuous place on the piece. Work a few weaving stitches before inserting the
needle back through the stuffed piece and out at another point. Cut the yarn.

Fitting safety eyes

Choose and mark the positions for the eyes (or nose) on the front of the face. Insert the shank of the eye through the yarn from
front side to back side. (the eye is on the front side, the shank sticks out at the back.) Attach the locking washer onto the shank
and push down firmly to lock it tightly. You can use a safety eye insertion tool for doing this.

Invisible join
After the last stitch is worked (don’t slip stitch in next stitch), cut the yarn leaving a tail and pull the tail through the last stitch.
Using the tail and a yarn needle, skip the next stitch and insert the needle under both loops of following stitch. Then insert the
needle into the back loop of the last stitch made (the same stitch where the tail came through) and also through the horizontal
loop of the stitch (for stability).
Gently tug the yarn so that it looks like a stitch and matches the others. Secure it and weave in the tail.

Fasten off
After the last stitch is worked, work a slip stitch in the next stitch. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail. With the tail, yarn over and pull the
tail through the stitch.

Hair

Work with the black yarn (YarnArt Jeans 28)

Rnd 1: 8 sc in magic ring
Rnd 2: 8 inc = 16
Rnd 3: [1 sc, inc]*8 times =24
Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc ]*8 times=32
Rnd 5: [3 sc, inc]*8 times=40
This circle piece is the top of the hair. Now, without cutting the yarn, we are going to crochet hair strands in a spiral
way.

Start to crochet hair- strands

Strands 1-14: Work Ch 20 , turn back, ‘skip 2 and, starting from the 3rd loop,’ work 1 dc in the next 18 loops of the
chain. Skip 1 st from the circle piece and work sl st into the next st. Keep working in series until you have 14 strands
of hair.
Strands 15-20: Work Ch 16 , turn back, ‘skip 2 and, starting from the 3rd loop,’ work 1 dc in the next 14 loops of the
chain. Skip 1 st from the circle piece and work sl st into the next st. Keep working in series until you have 6 strands of
hair.
Leave a long tail to sew later. Fasten off.

Hair Assembly

1. Place the hair on the head. First, pin the circle piece on the center of the head and pin 14 long hair strands to the
back of the head and leave 6 short hair strands on the face. Firstly, sew the circle piece on the top of the head, do
not pull tight otherwise it will look bad.

2. Create a bang through right side of the head with 6 hair strands on the face.

3. Take the needle out of the place where you pinned the hair. Just sew the hair strands on the head where you
pinned. Do Not pull tight otherwise it will look ugly.

Congratulations!
You have completed your doll 😊
Wishing you happy days!
