1. The document outlines a term project to analyze the stability of a slope that will support a new roadway. Students are asked to conduct static and dynamic slope stability analyses with and without a water table and with pile reinforcement if needed.
2. Analyses should investigate factor of safety and include deformation, shear, and bending from soil-structure interaction on any piles.
3. Results should be presented in a PowerPoint and 10-page professional report.

Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering CIV 683 Soil Structure Interaction Term Project Due Date: April 21, 2020 Problem: A road way should be constructed on top of a slope, presented in Figure 1. To accomplish the project, you are hired to determine the stability of the slope at different options. The location is subjected to an earthquake with peak ground acceleration along the horizontal direction as 0.2g. Conduct the following: 1. Investigate the static factor of safety of the slope at its current condition. 2. Investigate the dynamic factor of safety of the slope considering no water table. 3. Conduct dynamic slope stability analysis including the water table as presented in Figure 1. 4. If the slope is not stable, include 4 ft. diameter pile @ 5 ft. c/c out of plane and 10 ft. c/c along the slope direction. Conduct both static and dynamic deformation and safety analysis, including the piles. 5. Compare the soil structure interaction (deformation, shear force and bending moment diagram) of each pile, between the static and dynamic analysis. 6. Summarize your work in a PowerPoint presentation (~20 slides) and a professional grade report (no more than 10 pages).
