Chapter1: Overview

1.1 Introduction

1.2 Overview of the Industry

The global air purifier market size was estimated at USD 8.04 billion in 2019 and is expected to
register a CAGR of 10.8% over the forecast period. The market is anticipated to be driven by the
rising prevalence of airborne diseases along with rising pollution levels in urban areas.
Moreover, improved standard of living, increasing disposable income as well as growing health
consciousness are some of the factors expected to drive the growth. Increasing need for the
adoption of air pollution control equipment, especially in the developing regions is anticipated to
drive the demand for air purifiers. Growing health awareness, especially in the urban youth, is
expected to contribute significantly to the growth.

Stringent environmental protection laws, growing industrialization, and awareness for controlling
pollution are anticipated to have a positive influence on the market growth in the U.S. over the
forecast period. The High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) technology segment is expected to
dominate the U.S. market over the forecast period as it is the most effective technology for trapping
harmful airborne particles.
According to a recent survey, clean air is of the highest importance for the consumers so as to
avoid various health problems. However, growing industrialization coupled with rising
construction and mining activities in developing economies significantly contributes to air
pollution, which in turn expected to drive the demand for air purifier products over the forecast
period.
Earlier, the demand for air purifiers was primarily driven by consumers suffering from respiratory
disorders. However, rising health consciousness among consumers is expected to positively
influence the demand in the forthcoming years. Rising product demand from hotels in order to
meet consumer needs for comfort, especially in cities with high levels of air pollution is anticipated to
further fuel the market growth in the near future.
Government efforts to regulate air pollution by introducing stringent regulations and indoor air
quality standards are projected to drive the market growth over the forecast period. Additionally,
numerous air pollution control campaigns undertaken across the globe by government and NGOs
are further anticipated to boost the demand for air purifier products over the forecast period.
MARKETSIZE
India air purifier market stood at $49 million in 2018 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of over
28% during 2019-2024 to reach over $ 220 million by 2024, on the back of rising
expenditure on health and wellness products along with growing awareness regarding hazardous
effects of air pollution. In addition, growing technological advancements, rising incidences of
respiratory diseases, surging disposable income and growing urban population are expected to
boost the demand for air purifiers in the country during forecast period. Some of the other
factors that would have a positive impact on air purifiers market in India are aggressive
marketing strategies and demand for premium products.

Technology Insights

Based on technology, the air purifier market is segmented into HEPA, activated carbon, ionic
filters, and others. HEPA technology segment held the largest market share in 2019 and it is

Projected to grow substantially over the forecast period. HEPA filters are extremely efficient in
trapping airborne particles such as dust, pollen, smoke, and bio-contaminants.
Activated carbon filters have exceptional trapping capacity on account of the larger surface area
of the carbon granules that makes them very effective in trapping gases, fumes, and odors. Though
HEPA filters are highly effective in trapping airborne particles, they are ineffective against gases,
odors, and chemicals. Hence, activated carbon filters are generally used in conjunction with HEPA
filters to improve the efficiency of the air purifiers.
The ionic filters technology segment accounted for 26.5% of the total revenue share in 2019, and it
is expected to expand at a substantial CAGR from 2020 to 2027. Air ionizers generate negative ions
that attack harmful airborne particles and help to lock them in. This factor is anticipated to fuel the
application of the technology and in turn fuel the segment growth.
Air Purifier Market Share Insights

The market is diversified in nature with the presence of both multinational and regional players.
Key players such as Honeywell International Inc.; IQAir; Daikin Industries, Ltd; Koninklijke
Philips N.V.; and Panasonic Corporation have a wide-ranging product portfolio, extensive
distribution network, and high degree of operational integration. All the major market players have
invested extensively in R&D initiatives in recent years, which has led to the invention of several
innovative products. Major players are aiming at strategic mergers and acquisitions of small and
medium scale companies to enhance their product portfolio. Hence, an intense rivalry is anticipated
among players in the forthcoming years.

Chapter 3: Conceptual Background

In a time where 6 out of 10 most polluted cities in the world are Indian, we as a country face a
huge health crisis that is still invisible to most of us. In recent years indoor air pollution has
emerged as one of the leading reasons for health issues in Indian metro cities.
This has aggravated problems like lung cancer, respiratory diseases, heart problems, affects
pregnant women and new born and has increased the mortality rate.
We at oxygarden have tried to come up with a solution by sanitizing the air naturally and to
mitigate the impact of contaminated indoor air on human health.

By studying green natural plants that are NASA certified we wondered and experimented if they
can be used to efficiently purify air at a good extent. R&D for three years enabled us to blend
green natural plants, synthetic filters, innovative growing media, humidifier and latest
technology altogether and create a product that is self-sustainable which not only purifies but
sanitizes it so that all pathogens can be removed from indoor air.
FOREST
The forest provides you with an artificial energy source for the indoor photosynthesis process of
the plants. It has a monolithic structure to support all the elements of a neutralizer. It has a 5
Step purification process wherein indoor air passes through a pre filter, activated carbon filter, a
heap filter, green natural plants and innovative soilless growing media and then returns the
purified air back to the environment.
Top features:
Purifies area of 800 sq. ft.
Maintains humidity in an ideal range of 30-40% that is known to tackle harmful chemicals,
bacteria and other diseases causing pathogens.
Can fresh up till 700 litres of fresh air in a day by decreasing AQI level by 70%
fully self-sustainable, a onetime plug and forget
Cleans air at a speed of 500 m3 volume/hour

Present with the current pandemic situation that endangers mankind around the globe, people
are in a sense of fear and will hesitate to visit hotels, shopping malls, educational institutions and
offices. The forest is capable of serving as a protective shield by killing the covid virus present in
the air as it has been scientifically proven that maintaining a humid level of 30-40% will
significantly reduce the virus lifespan in the air.
Let’s fight this invisible enemy together and let’s work towards a cleaner environment and a
healthy lifestyle.
Chapter 4: Data Analysis and Findings

1. Using the scale below, how would you rate the Indoor Air Quality in your home?

Fig.1

As in the above diagram we can interpret that the average indoor air quality of 40% people are at
the rating of 3 which is the average air quality and only 25% people rating 5 that their indoor air
quality is excellent. And there are 30% people they rate their indoor air quality is 4 that is good
but not excellent.
2. What is the approximate square footage of your home?

Fig.2
An air purifier can clean the air upto 1100sqft area. As we see from the graph that more than 46%
people are live in a 1000-3000sqft area. Likewise if a person have an area of more than 5000sqft
he need more air purifiers in their house as in the graph there are more than 30% people who live
in an area of more than 3000sqft area and there are 11% people who live in an area of more than
5000sqft.

3. From the concerns listed below, please select all that apply
• A member of my household wakes up with puffy eyes or sinus congestion

• A member of my household has trouble sleeping through the night

• Cooking odors (fried foods, vegetables, and fish) linger in my house

• Second hand smoke or smoke odor is present in my home

• Pet odors or Pet dander are present in my home

• I care for an elderly parent in my home

• I worry about bacteria being present on surfaces and in the air

Fig.3

In the above graph there are more than 48% peoples who are worry about that bacteria being
present on surface and in the air which causes diseases. As we know that air borne disease are
spread from the air and air purifier pure the air and clean the environment. And then there are
more than 40% people says that I can take care of my elder parents as we know that senior
citizen had the problem of breathing they had breathing difficulties.25% people said that they
had problem at sleeping in night and 25% cooking odors linger in my house. While there are
more than 20% people who said that a member of my house wakes up with puffy eyes.
4. Do any of these allergens bother a member of the household?

Fig.4

In the above diagram there are more than 67% peoples and their family member are suffered
from dust allergy and there are more than 15% people they suffering from allergy of mold pet
dander and pollen.

5. Do any of these chemicals bother a member of the household?

quality by using the air purifier in their houses while there are 21% people who may be want to
improve their indoor air quality and maybe not. These are those who wants to improve the quality
according in which type of area they lived.
Chapter 5: Discussion and Conclusion

A comprehensive research report created through extensive primary research and secondary
research, the report aims to project the analysis of Role of Air Purifiers in Institutional segment.

Discussion

The air quality in the National Capital Region is deteriorating day by day and the

Authorities have declared a public health emergency in Delhi. This choking air pollution not
only brings a host of severe respiratory illnesses but may also adversely affect your heart and
brain.

The thick smog that has enveloped Delhi and NCR is raising an alarm as the pollution .

Levels have touched a three-year high. While the people are already breathing in the toxic
and polluted air outdoors, there aren’t enough long term plans in place to battle the same.

With the levels of murky pollutants (including PM 2.5 and PM 10) touching almost 14
times the safe limit, doctors are strongly suggesting to step out only if necessary.
While the consensus is that staying indoors is relatively safer, it may not necessarily be the
case. When the toxic air from the outside floats in and gets trapped inside our homes, it
leads to a steep rise in indoor air pollution.
Yes, even if our houses appear nice and clean, if the pollution levels are peaking
Outdoors, it is bound to get worse inside as well. From dust, heavy metals, organic matter
to even pesticides, there is no dearth of particulates wreaking havoc on our bodies
indoors.
CONCLUSION

This report aims on the role and effect of an Air sanitizer in improving health of people which is
often ignored by many. Most of us remain indoors for 90% of our daily life, breathing in air that is
impure, contaminated, and polluted.
Consequently, becoming prisoners of our own created restraint and not being able to live up to
our full potentials. World health organization (WHO) has implied that the indoor polluted air is
actually one of the biggest environmental health risks of our generation.
While air sanitizers are not 100% necessary for everyone to have in the home, the truth is that
more people benefit from them than not.
Studies have shown that indoor air quality can be up to 5 times worse than the air outside.
This is because there are many things inside the home that produce invisible airborne pollutants
such as cleaning supplies, building materials, paints, bacteria, cooking particles, pets, smoke,
dust mites, etc.
And because our homes are so tightly sealed, this polluted air has no place to go and continues to
circulate around your house.
Contaminated air can lead to all sorts of respiratory problems as well as headaches, fatigue, and
worse, depending on the source of the pollutants.
If you have an air sanitizer in your home, the sheer number of toxins you breathe on a daily basis
will rapidly start to decrease.
Additionally, these particles will remain at lower levels as long as you have the air purifier
running and keep the filters clean.
It’s those reasons why an air sanitizer is such a great investment.
Chapter 6: Recommendations

• Oxygarden should focus and develop a smaller version of “FOREST” maybe “FOREST
LITE” as the product they have now is not feasible economically to the middle-class
households in India

• They should provide a free demo of the product by installing it at the facility of an
interested buyer for a limited time let’s say one week so that they can test, and verify the
claims of the product and be fully satisfied of the outcome of their investments

• The product will only be successful if the after sales service is good otherwise it’s a
disaster, oxygarden should team up with more local technicians and retailers and give them
enough incentive so that they take care of sales and service on their own in their respective
region.

• Company needs to invest more in the promotion of the product as awareness regarding Air
sanitizers in India even in metropolitan cities like Delhi is very low.
Chapter 7: Learnings from Summer Internship

Summer Internship was itself a very unique learning journey and I would like to thank MAIT and
oxygarden for providing me such an amazing opportunity and the following are my learnings from
my internship:

• Learned and developed a skill to work on and create sales pitch in accordance to the need
Of the customer
• How to handle customer’s calls is also the major learning from the project, training helped
Me to improve my interpersonal skills and has really boosted up my confidence level to
speak to the unknown customers and even to a higher authority people from the society.
• Training helped me to know about the oxygarden products, gave me enough understanding
regarding specification of the product which helped me a lot in comparing the “FOREST”
with its competitors.
• Summer internship gave me the opportunity to relate all my theoretical learnings to the
practical aspects which was indeed great and fruitful.
• A challenge which came early was to know why there are not much leads generated and
customer interest in the services by the company, to get to the bottom of this challenge I
would get the answer only by being in the shoes of someone who is being targeted and only
then I would get to know about the paint point which needs to be addressed and how it will
be effective.
• Also helped in identifying a new market for the company rather than being focusing only
on B2C, decision was taken to go for B2B also.
• I helped in creating strategy also on how to target the B2B customers, identifying the gaps,
addressing the pain points which are to be addressed so get the customers interested in our
service.
When we are working for a company we also need to know what are the competitors are
doing and services which they are providing over our company, w.r.t the company I was
working in I did a whole detailed analysis of the main competitors by which my industrial
mentors were also impressed.
