ITC(IW/SW/AW) Michael Schwartz, Shipboard Systems LCPO, IWTC San Diego

Chief Schwartz grew up in Lucerne Valley, California and joined the Navy at 19 years old where he went
directly to boot camp in Great Lakes, IL in May of 1997. From there he moved on to Pensacola, FL where
he completed both CTO “A” and “C” schools prior to reporting to his first command, USS Kinkaid (DD-
965) in San Diego, CA. Following the Kinkaid, he completed three more tours including Commander in
Chief, U.S.
Naval Forces Europe (CINCUSNAVEUR) London, England, Fleet Intelligence Training Center Pacific
(FITCPAC) San Diego, CA, and Commander Amphibious Squadron Five (COMPHIBRON 5) aboard
USS Boxer (LHD-4). After ten years of active-duty service, he transitioned to the civilian community.

In January of 2008, he joined the Navy Reserve in Little Rock, AR and was assigned to Fleet Training
Center Pacific (FTCPAC) where he became the unit’s Executive Officer. Next, he transferred to Military
Sealift Command Expeditionary Port Unit 112 (MSC EPU 112), where he was the unit's Senior Enlisted
Leader. His volunteer deployments as a SELRES include Navy Customs Battalion Kilo (NAVELSG
FWD KILO) Camp LSA, Kuwait (2010), USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) for Pacific Partnership 2012, and
Chief of Naval Operations, N81 (2013).

Chief Schwartz was then selected for the RC to AC program and reenlisted onto active duty. He remained
at NOSC Little Rock, as the LCPO until he received orders to Standing NATO Maritime Group Two
(SNMG 2). There, he was the Staff COMMS Chief during back-to-back deployments on the USS Leyte
Gulf (CG-55) and USS Vicksburg (CG-69). In August of 2015, he transferred to Information Warfare
Training Command San Diego (IWTC SD). As the LCPO at the Point Loma location, he oversaw 12 IT
“C” and “F” schools as well as taught the Advanced Network Analyst (ANA) course. In September of
2018, ITC transferred to the USS Somerset (LPD-25) where he was CC02 LCPO and KOAM. Currently,
Chief has returned to IWTC San Diego where he is the shipboard systems LCPO and KOAM course
supervisor.

His academic achievements and personal awards include an associate degree in computer science,
Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy
and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (nine awards), Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist, Enlisted
Surface Warfare Specialist, and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist.

Chief Schwartz is in the process of completing his bachelor's degree in organizational leadership though
Arizona State University. He resides in Santee, CA and is married to his wife Vicki and has two
daughters, Shyla (26) and Riley (8).
