1-28 Macbeth
Often Shakespeare has a character arguing with him or herself in a soliloquy. It’s like in the cartoons when an
angel and devil appear on the character’s shoulders and offer reasons for or against something. Here Macbeth is
arguing with himself about murdering King Duncan. Your job is to figure out what he’s saying and if he’s
arguing for or against the murder. Put the reason/translation in the corresponding boxes.
If I’m going to kill him, I should If it were done when ’tis done, then
do it fast.
’twere well It were done quickly.
