THE RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This section covers the research design that will discuss the survey method on how the data will be
gathered. In addition, it will describe the research environment that will relate with the respondents of the
study. The instrument will also be analyze which will be used in conducting the survey. This provides an idea
on how the data will be gathered, treated, analyzed and interpreted. Hence, this section gives an overview of
how this research methodology is done.

Research Method
This study is a quantitative research which shall utilize a descriptive method research design. This
method is conducted to obtain convenient feedbacks from variety of respondents compromising of various
students and teachers to aid in measuring the effectiveness of PowerPoint in the learning process at CTU
Tuburan Campus. A researcher – made questionnaire was used as an instrument for data gathering. A letter
was sent to the administration to ask permission in conducting the said matter as well as the letter addressed
to the respondents for formality and academic purposes. The first part of the questionnaire focuses on the on
the performance of students using the PowerPoint presentation. With regards to the second part, it focuses on
the possible problems that can be encountered using the PowerPoint as a multimedia tool in the teaching-
learning process. Thus, this study involves gathering data that describes events and then organizes, tabulates,
illustrates and describes data.
Formulation of the effectiveness of PowerPoint as a multimedia tool in the learning process is the output of the
study.

Research Environment
This study shall be conducted at Cebu Technological University, Tuburan, Campus located at the
Municipality of Tuburan, Cebu. The municipality of Tuburan is located in the North-Western part of Cebu,
approximately 100 kilometers away from the City via North drive, 96 kilometers away via South drive and 75
kilometers away via Trans Central highway. Tuburan is bordered to the North by the town of Tabuelan, to the
West is the Tanon Strait ( ichange nag enye and “n” sa word nga Tanon cai, tnx), to the East are the towns of
Carmen, Catmon and Sogod, and to the South is the town of Asturias. Tuburan is also known as a 2nd class
municipality in the province of Cebu. It is known to have a numerous barangays with very small population
count. In addition, the Municipality of Tuburan is consists of 54 barangays and most of these are located in
mountain areas.

Data shall also be obtained from Cebu Technological University, Tuburan -– Campus. It is a state

university located at Brgy.8, Tuburan, Cebu. It is one of the campus satellites of CTU Main Campus, Cebu City.

It is an institution which gears towards bar of excellence.

Research Respondents

This study shall utilize a simple random sampling method in choosing the respondents.

The respondents should be students who are currently studying in Cebu Technological University –

Tuburan Campus who have used PowerPoint as a multimedia tool in their learning process in the

specific institution. Number of students as the respondents should be 50 which focuses on the

students at Cebu Technological University – Tuburan Campus. The respondents have the great

power of contribution in conducting the said study.

Research Instrument

This study shall utilize a research made questionnaire as a tool for gathering data. This

shall be validated through a pilot-testing in Cebu Technological University – Tuburan Campus. The

survey questionnaires are made with the four numerical rating measuring the effectiveness of

PowerPoint in the learning process at Cebu Technological University – Tuburan, Campus. The

assessment has the following interpretations: very effective, effective, less effective, and ineffective.

Research Procedure

1. Preliminary. Before conducting the study, the researchers shall conduct a pilot testing or a pre-

survey of the questionnaire among 15 students. The purpose of this action is to establish the validity

of the study and provides valuable feedback so that researchers can revise and improve their papers

before publication.

2. Data Collection. Before conducting the study to the premises of CTU-TC, the researchers shall

write a letter of intent addressed to Dr. Pedrito Pontillas to ask for permission in conducting the said

study through survey questionnaires. The questionnaires must be given to the respondents with the

researchers offering an overview, purpose of the study and general instructions. Later on, the

researchers will be able to collect, tabulate, and calculate the results.

3. Data Management.

This table shows the level of effectiveness in using PowerPoint in the learning process at Cebu

Technological University – Tuburan Campus.

Statistical Treatment

After each respondent filled out the survey questionnaire, the data shall be collected. The

following statistical tool was used by the researchers.

1. Simple Percentage – this shall be used to determine the percentage on the effectiveness of

using PowerPoint as a multimedia tool in the learning process.

The formula is: P = f/N (100)

Where,

P is the Percentage

F is the frequency

N is the number of cases/respondents

2. Weighted mean – this shall be used to determine the academic performance of the

students in using PowerPoint as a multimedia tool in the Learning process.

The formula is: X = TWP/N

Where: X = Weighted mean

TWP = Total Weighted Points

N = Number of cases/respondents
3. Ranking – this shall be used by the researchers in order to identify the possible problems that

can be encountered by the said study.
