Movie Review

Recently, I came across film with the title of La La Land. La La Land is an

American musical romantic comedy-drama film directed by Damien Chazelle.
It stars Emma Stone as an aspiring actress, Mia and Ryan Gosling as a jazz
musician, Sebastian, who were both struggling to make ends meet while
pursuing their dreams in the city of Los Angeles.

The film starts with three strange encounters of the two characters. Mia, who
dropped out of college to pursue her acting dream was given a cold splash of
reality as the entertainment industry is highly competitive. To pay her rent and
continue auditioning for a role she wants, she worked part-time in a café, which
is where she met Sebastian. Sebastian is a jazz pianist who adores the old-
fashioned style of jazz. He wants to preserve the tradition, but was forced to
play the music he doesn’t like to get a paying gig. It is because of their
individual struggles, their first few meetings were antagonistic, but they
eventually fell for each other as they saw the passion each had for their dreams
in each other. However, two broke people with unstable income surely aren’t
suitable for a long-term relationship. There are lots of challenges that they are
yet to face.

Ever since La La Land was released, it has won many viewer’s hearts,
especially those who are into musical and theatre. The film had won several
awards, including six Oscars and eight Grammys. This is a great achievement
that the film deserves as the cinematography and the plot are truly mesmerising.

Besides, I especially liked the soundtrack and the style of the music. They
had a jazzy twist to them. I was also amazed by the remarkable piano
performance by the male lead actor, Ryan Gosling. Furthermore, the two stars
had exceptional chemistry together. It is shown specifically in the scene where
they shared a tap dance together on a lovely summer night.

I absolutely enjoyed this film. I would highly recommend this film to my

friends who like musicals and to a more matured audience as they can relate
more to the characters, thus enjoying it.
