Quy tắc 2: Hầu hết V và Pre (giới từ) có hai âm tiết thì → 2

V: design /di´zain/, enjoy /ɪnˈdʒɔɪ/, include /ɪnˈkluːd/…

Pre: between /bɪˈtwiːn/, among /əˈmʌŋ/…

Một số động từ có âm tiết thứ 2 chứa nguyên âm ngắn và kết thúc bằng 1 phụ âm → 1

Ex: answer /ˈɑːn.sər/, enter /ˈen.tər/, happen /ˈhæp.ən/, offer /ˈɒf.ər/, open /ˈəʊ.pən/, visit /ˈvɪz.ɪt/,…

Quy tắc 3. Các từ 2 âm tiết bắt đầu bằng A thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết thứ 2

Quy tắc 4. Các từ tận cùng bằng các đuôi

– ic, – ics, -ial, – ity, -ical, -ible, -uous, -ics*, ium, , – sophy,- graphy– ulum , thì trọng âm nhấn vào âm tiết

Quy tắc 5. Các từ kết thúc bằng – ate, – cy*, -ty, -phy, -gy
Nếu 2 âm tiết thì → 1
Nếu từ có từ 3 âm tiết trở lên thì → âm tiết thứ 3 từ cuối lên.
