Changes that occurs to the ovaries after puerperium

During puerperium, which is the period following childbirth, the ovaries go through several changes as
they return to their pre-pregnancy state. These changes include:

Regression in size: The ovaries undergo a process of involution, or regression in size, as the hormone
levels that were elevated during pregnancy return to normal levels.

Follicular development: As the ovaries regress in size, new follicles begin to develop within the ovaries.
These follicles contain immature eggs that will eventually be released during ovulation.

Resumption of menstrual cycles: As the follicles mature and ovulation occurs, the woman's menstrual
cycle resumes.

Return of fertility: With the resumption of menstrual cycles, the woman's fertility returns, and she is
able to conceive again.

It's worth noting that these changes may take several weeks or even months to occur, and the timing
may vary from woman to woman depending on factors such as breastfeeding and hormonal
fluctuations. Additionally, some women may experience postpartum complications that affect their
ovarian function, such as postpartum ovarian cysts or premature ovarian failure.
