I. Objectives
At the end of this lesson, students are expected to;
Define and comprehend the meaning of multimeter.
Identify the parts of multimeter and;
Familiarize the uses and functions of each part.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: PARTS OF MULTIMETER
Reference:
1. K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum Technology and Livelihood Education
Learning Module – Consumer Electronics Servicing pp. 39-42
2. CP – TLE Industrial Arts Electronics Technology 1 Quarter 2
III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Greetings
“A pleasant morning to everyone!” “Good morning Ma’am!”
2. Prayer
“Before anything else, may I request everyone
(students follow what the teacher requested to
to please stand for a prayer.” them)
3. Checking of attendance
“Correct!”
B. Presentation
1. Motivation
Okay, are you all familiar with the game “Yes Ma’am”
“BRING ME”?
2. Lesson Proper
(students will raise their hand)
“Let’s discuss first what is multimeter.
Anyone? Who has idea of what a multimeter
is?” Student: “For me Ma’am, a multimeter is an
electronic measuring equipment.”
“Yes______.”
MULTIMETER
A multimeter or multitester, also known as a
volt/ohm milliammeter (VOM), is an
electronic measuring instrument that Student:
combines several measurement functions in used in locating troubled stage of a
one unit. particular circuit and in testing
electronics components.
(calls a student) may include features such as the
“Kindly read please.” ability to measure voltage, small
amount of current and resistance.
“Alright. Thank you.”
POINTER
First, we have the pointer which is the needle
rod that moves over the scale of a meter.
Mechanically connected to the moving coil,
(students will raise their hand)
that indicates the value of electrical quantity
that has been measured.
Student: “The pointer ma’am”
“Again, what is this needle rod part of the
multimeter? Anyone?”
Student: “It indicates the value that has been
measured.”
“Correct. Thank you.”
RANGE MULTIPLIER
Next, is what we call the Range Multiplier,
the portion of the multimeter where the actual
reading is being multiplied.
“Excellent_____.”
“Alright! Thank you. So, Test Probe serves as Student: "Ma'am, the red test probe is
the input portion of the multimeter, used to connected to the positive terminal."
connect the circuit to the electrical
components being tested without exposing
electrical workers to live conductive parts.”
Student: “Ma’am, the black test probe
"When we want to measure an electrical connects to negative terminal.”
component, where do we connect the red test
probe? Anyone?”
“Yes____.”
“Very good!”
“Good job!”
“None, Ma’am.”
RANGE SELECTOR KNOB
Lastly, is Range Selector Knob it is used to
select different functions and range of the
meter.
“So, those are the parts of the Multimeter. (students are counting)
Do you have any questions? Clarifications?”
3. Activity (application)
“Yes_____.”
IV. Evaluation
Direction: Read the following questions and write the answer to the space provided.
I. Identification
___________1. It indicates the value of electrical quantity that has been
measured.
___________2. The portion of the multimeter where the actual reading is
being multiplied.
___________3. It's commonly found in the multimeter's highest section,
which contains a series of markings for reading.
___________4. It is used to adjust the pointer that fails to point to zero on
the right side.
___________5. Insulated wires capable of establishing an electrical
connection between a multimeter and the test object.
___________6. Makes it possible to select different functions and range of
the meter.
___________7. A knob on a multimeter that is used to point the needle to
zero on the scale's left side.
II. Essay
8-10. Why is it important to know the parts and functions of multimeter?
V. Assignment
Read in advance about how to read a multimeter when measuring resistance and voltage.
