“Correct!”

“What else?” Student: “Be prepared for class”

(calls a student)

“Correct. What about the last rule?”

Student: “Respect and be quite when someone
(calls a student)
is talking.”
“Very good!”

B. Presentation
1. Motivation

“Before we proceed to our proper discussion

let us have first an activity. I will divide the
class into two teams. This side will be the
Team A and this side will be the Team B.”

Okay, are you all familiar with the game “Yes Ma’am”
“BRING ME”?

“So, I have cut out pictures inside these two

boxes.”

The instruction is you will bring the picture

that I will ask from you and anyone from the
group who can bring the exact picture to me, “Okay Ma’am.”
each group member will get 5 points. You
will only be given a maximum of 20 seconds
“Yes Ma’am”
to find the particular picture.

“Are you ready?”

Pictures to bring:
 Pointer (students provide the pictures)
 Scale
 Dial/Infinity Knob
 Test Probe
 Range Selector Knob
 Zero Ohm Adjustment
 Analog Multimeter

The winner is…… (students do the VIVA applause)

“Thank you for your cooperation class! Let’s
give ourselves a VIVA applause!”
(students raising their hand)
“From this activity that we have done what do Student: “I think it’s about parts of
you think is our lesson for today? Anyone?” Multimeter Ma’am.”
“Yes_____.”

“Very good, so our topic for today is all about

parts of multimeter, but we will not just
discuss what a multimeter is, we will also
discuss the uses and functions of each part.”

2. Lesson Proper
(students will raise their hand)
“Let’s discuss first what is multimeter.
Anyone? Who has idea of what a multimeter
is?” Student: “For me Ma’am, a multimeter is an
electronic measuring equipment.”
“Yes______.”

“Okay very good! That is one of the

definitions of a multimeter.”

“Please be noted that those students who are

participating will get extra points.”

MULTIMETER
A multimeter or multitester, also known as a
volt/ohm milliammeter (VOM), is an
electronic measuring instrument that Student:
combines several measurement functions in  used in locating troubled stage of a
one unit. particular circuit and in testing
electronics components.
(calls a student)  may include features such as the
“Kindly read please.” ability to measure voltage, small
amount of current and resistance.
“Alright. Thank you.”

“So, multimeter is an equipment used by

technicians that measure both the voltage, Student:
resistance and current.” ANALOG VS. DIGITAL MULTIMETER
“Generally made of two types, the Analog
 Analog multimeter comprises of a
and Digital multimeter.”
scale and a deflection pointer which
(calls a student)
actually indicates the value to be
measured on the scale.
“Please read the definition of Analog and
 Digital multimeter shows the results

as numbers on a screen, allowing them
to be read easily and directly.

Student: “Ma’am, the difference between the

two types of multimeter is that the analog
“So, what is the difference between the multimeter has a pointer to indicate the result
analog multimeter and digital multimeter?” while the digital multimeter directly displays
the result.”

“Very good, here I have the Analog type of

multimeter and let’s see the different parts
and its uses.”

POINTER
First, we have the pointer which is the needle
rod that moves over the scale of a meter.
Mechanically connected to the moving coil,
(students will raise their hand)
that indicates the value of electrical quantity
that has been measured.
Student: “The pointer ma’am”
“Again, what is this needle rod part of the
multimeter? Anyone?”
Student: “It indicates the value that has been
measured.”
“Correct. Thank you.”

“What is the purpose of a multimeter

pointer?”
(calls a student)
“Very Good! Okay, let’s procced.”
Student:
“Second is what we called a multimeter SCALE
Scale”  a scale is usually found in the
(calls a student) uppermost part of the multimeter.
 It contains a set of markings for
“Kindly read please.” reading the quantity value.

“Alright, thank you. You may take your seat.”

“So, the scale in multimeter is used for

reading the value quantity of the voltage,
resistance and current.”

RANGE MULTIPLIER
Next, is what we call the Range Multiplier,
the portion of the multimeter where the actual
reading is being multiplied.

“For example, you’re measuring 12V battery, Student:

use the 20V setting.” ZERO ADJUSTMENT KNOB
 the portion the multimeter where it is
“Then, we have the Zero Adjustment Knob or
adjusted when the pointer fails to
Zero Ohm Adjustment Knob.”
point to zero on the right side.
(calls a student)
“To adjust the pointer when it fails to point to
“Kindly read please.”
zero Ma’am.”

“So, what is the purpose of the Zero

Adjustment Knob?

“Excellent_____.”

(students will raise their hand)

DIAL/INFINITY KNOB
The Dial/Infinity Knob, is used to point the
needle to the zero at the left side of the scale. Student: “The zero-adjustment knob Ma’am.”

“So, what knob to use when we want to adjust

the pointer on the right side? Anyone?”

Student: “The dial/infinity knob Ma’am.”

“Yes_______.”
“Correct. How about when we want to adjust
Student:
the pointer on the left, what knob to use?”
(calls a student) TEST PROBE
 Test Probe are insulated wires, that are
“Very good____.” able to establish an electrical
connection between a multimeter and
the DUT (Device Under Test)
“Another important part of the multimeter  Red test probe becomes (+) positive
that that connect to positive terminal.
you need to know is the Test Probe.”  Black test probe becomes (-) negative
(calls a student) that connect to negative terminal.

“Kindly read please.”

(students will raise their hand)

“Alright! Thank you. So, Test Probe serves as Student: "Ma'am, the red test probe is
the input portion of the multimeter, used to connected to the positive terminal."
connect the circuit to the electrical
components being tested without exposing
electrical workers to live conductive parts.”
Student: “Ma’am, the black test probe
"When we want to measure an electrical connects to negative terminal.”
component, where do we connect the red test
probe? Anyone?”

“Yes____.”

“Very good!”

“How about the black test probe?”

(calls a student)

“Good job!”
“None, Ma’am.”
RANGE SELECTOR KNOB
Lastly, is Range Selector Knob it is used to
select different functions and range of the
meter.

“So, those are the parts of the Multimeter. (students are counting)
Do you have any questions? Clarifications?”

3. Activity (application)

“Alright! At this very moment, you are going “Okay Ma’am”

to apply what you have learned. I’m going to
divide you into 7 groups. Please count 1 to 7
“Yes Ma’am.”
starting from you____.”

“Group 1 stay here, Group 2 stay there, Group

3 stay at the back, Group 4 stay at the side,
Group 5 stay on the other side, Group 6 stay
in front and Group 7 at the center. Transfer
silently class and don’t disarrange the chairs.”

“Are you now in your group?”

In this bond paper, I have 7 printed pictures of

an analog multimeter, but there are 3 missing
parts, and each multimeter has distinct
missing parts. As a result, you must draw and
color the missing parts. Then choose a
representative who will explain how to use
the missing parts you just drew. You will
have only 5 minutes to complete the task.

"I'd like to invite the group leaders to come up

and grab their activity sheet, pencil, and
coloring materials."

CRITERIA: (the student shows their groups drawing and

Accuracy – 10 explains the uses of each part.)
Neatness – 10
Time management – 10
Overall = 30 points
(students do the applause)
“Your time starts now.”

“Your time is up. May I call the

representative of group___ to please stand
and tell us the missing parts that you’ve
drawn and its uses. The rest of the group
please listen.”

(students will raise their hand)

“Very good. All groups did it correctly. Let’s
give everyone a “YES” applause for a job
well done.” Student: “Ma’am the equipment that is
important in measuring electrical component
1. Generalization is a Multimeter.”

“Alright, it seems that you all really

understand
the topic that we discussed today.” (students will raise their hand)

“So, to sum up can you give me the

equipment Student: Ma’am the parts of Multimeter are;
that is important in measuring electrical  Pointer
component?”  Scale
 Range multiplier
“Yes_____.”  Zero adjustment knob
 Test Probe
“Good job_____!”
 Range selector knob
“Can anyone enumerate the parts of  Dial/Infinity knob
Multimeter?”

“Yes_____.”

“Excellent_____. It is essential to become

familiar with the uses of each part of a
multimeter so that we can utilize it without
being confused about what to do when
measuring electrical components.”
