Exercise #1
1. What has been your experience of leadership? What makes someone a leader?

 My own experience of leadership is when I volunteer being a leader of our research.

It is a big responsibility for all of us especially for me because I am the leader and we
have to pass the research subject. Its not easy to become a leader because I have to
always motivate them for us to finish our research and eventually, we passed and
now we are 4th year and graduating.
 I think being transparent makes someone a leader, being open and honest makes
work more efficient, enjoyable and less stress.

2. Choose 1 leader, what have they done that inspire you?

 I choose Miriam Defensor-Santiago because is a smart leader, she is also brave.

Miriam Defensor-Santiago has the strong personality of being leader, she is one of
the best examples of a leader. She did not want to be in a cruel community, she
wants the best for her community. She can stand alone without others in leading her
own life. She received many awards for being a good leader, a smart and for having a
strong personality as a leader.
3. What motivated you to enter clinical practice?

 Being a nurse is my dream ever since I really want to work in the hospital also see
and help patients to get better.
4. What are possible reason why do we study Nursing Leadership?

 One of the reasons why we study nursing leadership because when we work in the
hospital and become for example a chief nurse, we should know how to organize
schedule, know how to solve problem for issues related to bedside care, patient
safety, budget constraints, and staffing shortages. Being able to perform well under
pressure and balance of daily challenges.

Exercise #2
Are leaders born or made?

 For me leaders are made because leadership is a set of skills that can be learned by
training, perception, practice and experience over time. Leadership learning is
lifetime activity. Good leaders seek out development opportunities that will help
them learn new skills

Exercise #3
1. Particular traits are the key features of leadership; how do we explain people who
possess those qualities but are not leaders?

 The first one is accountability the best leaders take full responsibility for their team’s
performance, whether the outcome is good or bad. As a leader, you should aim to
praise your team when they perform well and provide constructive criticism to help
them improve. Second is confidence every leader should demonstrate confidence to
instill motivation. Next is the empathy to understand your team members better, try
scheduling informal meetings to help you acknowledge the challenges they face and
the goals they want to achieve. These are some of the qualities of a good leader but
as Dean Lei said to our previous discussion once you’re a leader you should “walk
your talk” it means you as a leader you should become also a role model to your
members.
